The wheel is designed to allow the vehicle to roll to a stop on the flat tire instead of forcing the vehicle to roll on its rims. 18 | We Sell Tires Why Volkswagen-recommended tires? Tires are an important component of your Volkswagen driving experience. They provide the four points of contact between your vehicle and the road. Tires affect acceleration, cornering, braking and your overall handling and performance. Volkswagen engineers select Original Equipment tires that will best meet the specifications of each vehicle. Volkswagen offers some pre-assembled wheel/tire packages using Original Equipment tires matched to Volkswagen-designed wheels. This combination ensures precise fit and great performance from your Volkswagen model. Volkswagen also offers replacement and winter tires for purchase.
A note about our wheel and summer performance tire assemblies: Our alloy wheel and tire assemblies, as well as some of the tires required for our larger-diameter alloy wheels, are designed for optimum performance and handling in warm climates. They are not suitable for cold, snowy or icy weather conditions. If you drive under those circumstances, you should equip your vehicle with all-season or winter tires, which offer better traction under those conditions. We suggest you use the recommended winter or all-season tire specified for your car or its equivalent. These high-performance tires also have a lower aspect ratio that aids performance and handling; however, in order to avoid tire, rim or vehicle damage, it is important that the inflation pressure is regularly checked and maintained at recommended levels. Please also remember, in making your selection, that while these tires deliver responsive handling, they may ride less comfortably and make more noise than other choices. For further information on all these topics, please consult the owner’s manual, your local dealer or call 1-800-DRIVE-VW. New wheels: If you want to replace the wheels installed on the vehicle at the factory, make sure that the new wheels are equipped with sensors which are compatible with the factoryinstalled tire-pressure monitoring system, if applicable. The valve in each tire is equipped with a sensor which measures the pressure in the tire and transmits it to the tire-pressure monitoring system. New wheels with sensors are recognized and integrated into the system. For recognition to take place, the vehicle must be driven for a while at more than 15 mph (25 km/h) after it has been idle for about 20 minutes. If you are using tires with different inflation pressures than those recommended by the factory, the tire-pressure values must be reprogrammed. Please contact your authorized Volkswagen dealer or qualified workshop. If you mount wheels which do not have sensors or have incompatible sensors, the system cannot recognize the wheels; the tire-pressure monitoring system is not able to measure inflation pressure, and a malfunction will be displayed. NOTE: USA New Beetles model year 2008 and newer require tire-pressure monitoring system sensors. Only a limited selection of wheels are compatible. Ask your dealer for details. NOTE: Volkswagen Rabbit, Jetta, Passat and Eos models not originally equipped from the factory with a sport suspension package require a suspension limiter kit, part number 000 071 501 A, sold separately at additional cost. Wheel alignment should be checked. Ask your VW dealer for details.
