Brief history of activities •

On 1974 Prof Leonardo Masotti worked on radar and ultrasonic pulse compression methods and on 1975 he founded the Ultrasonic and NDT Laboratory where medical and NDT applications of ultrasound have been carried out. (http://www.echommunity.com/EchommunityPortal/uscnd/index.htm).

The activity on ground penetrating radar (GPR) started in 1992 as knowledge transfer from ultrasonic non destructive testing (NDT) techniques, within the NDT doctorate course, coordinated by Prof. Leonardo Masotti.

Defect detection in engineering materials (metals, ceramics, etc.) has tackled by ultrasonic tomographic and time-of-flight inspection methods.

Physical principles underlying underground inspections with radar and ultrasonic/acoustic methods are similar and they have been investigated for landmine detection.

On 2006 starts a collaboration with Centro di GeoTecnologie of the University of Siena for organizing courses on georadar for geophysicists.
