Great British Sewing Bee Project Guide

Inspire the UK to start sewing… After the success of the first series of Great British Sewing Bee which attracted average audiences of 3 million viewers and inspired the UK to start sewing, the series is returning for a longer run of 8 episodes this spring. Things To Do would like to work with partners to promote activities that encourage the public to stitch, sew, knit, embroider and generally work with or learn about textiles.

Suitable Activities: We are currently looking for activities that:  Have a direct link to the Great British Sewing Bee key themes.  Are open to the general public.  Run between 12th February 2014 and 30th April 2014  Comply with the Things To Do Terms & Conditions We are not looking for activities that:  Are static and non-participatory (e.g. static exhibitions)  Have no interactive element e.g. a lecture (although a lecture of talk with a Q&A session or other interactive element would be acceptable).

Example Activities: We would like to promote a wide range of activities through Things To Do through this project and hope to inspire audiences to find out more about sewing and textiles through your events. As a guide these are some examples of the types of activities we are hoping to promote: Knitting, embroidery, tapestry, needlework, tie-dye, batik, up-cycling, dress making, design, pattern cutting, quilting, silk painting, spinning, weaving, crochet, the history of costume as well as discussions, guided walks and tours etc.

Promotion: We will promote your activities through Things To Do across BBC websites including the Great British Sewing Bee homepage www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b03myqj2 and across local news index pages and articles.
