Normally $24.00, $14.99 ea or $13.99 ea in doz lots These serious wines are bargains that easily have the quality and flavour of wines $10-20 per bottle more expensive! Over the last 30 years as a wine merchant I have been lucky enough to purchase cleanskins from Tyrrell’s (even “Vat” wines), Henschke and many other famous and respected names. Many of these were remarkable bargains and I wish I had kept more of them! This latest batch is some of the best wine buying ever for cellaring (especially the shiraz) or drinking. We hope that you enjoy, Cheers, Randall Pollard.

Unlabelled Best’s Pinot Noir 2011 24.00 $14.99 singles or $13.99 case lots

Great Western Shiraz 2011 $29.00 $14.99 singles or $13.99 case lots

12.5% alc/vol Variety: Pinot Noir (100%) Region: 100% Great Western This is 100% classified Great Western Pinot Noir. The winery just ran out of labels. The fruit for this wine comes from 1980 and 1987 Pinot Noir plantings in the Concongella vineyards at Best’s. Pinot Noir was first planted in the Nursery Block at Best’s in the 1860’s. It is believed that the origin of these vines goes back to the James Busby collection (1832), Australia’s first vines, of which the Pinot Noir was sourced from some of the finest vineyards in Burgundy. A Swiss clone was also sourced from the Geelong region in the late 1860’s. The original Best’s plantings are now thought to be the oldest Pinot Noir vines in the world, and one of these clones, is thought to exist nowhere else in the world. Great Western Pinot Noir is usually quite masculine, requiring a good percentage of whole bunch fermentation and cooler fermentation to promote more subtle savoury and spicy characters, and avoid the ‘fruit bomb’ style. 2011 was a cold vintage so only a small percentage (up to 10%) of whole bunch was used. The fruit was only lightly pressed to minimise extraction of tannins and stalky characters. This is a remarkable wine bargain even at the normal cellar door price of $21. But at Randall’s price of $14* (without the normal label) is a “Gifthorse” and probably one of the best bargains of the year.

13.5% alc/vol Variety: Shiraz (100%) Region: Great Western Mostly from Great Western and Rhymney this Great Western shiraz is a rich, spicy sweetly fruited and elegant red. This is a medium bodied but generous red with lovely, ripe, dark fruit flavours balanced with supple tannins and minimal oak influence. There are hints of liquorice, pepper, plum and Asian spices; all in what is, a very complete package. This will cellar very well if you can keep your hands off it!

Great Western Chardonnay 2011 (Limited Stocks) 24.00 $14.99 singles or $13.99 case lots 12.5% alc/vol Variety: Chardonnay (100%) Vintage: 2012 Region: Great Western The 2012 Great Western Chardonnay was sourced from a 2 hectare Chardonnay block within the Great Western G.I., planted in 1978. The vineyard is close planted and the site is well elevated with quartz gravel soil over clay, and produces fruit suitable for ‘Burgundian’ styles of Chardonnay. It was hand-picked at 11.5 baume and 100% barrel fermented in old French oak. To retain elegance and freshness of acidity, only a small percentage (10%) was put through malolactic fermentation. It was matured in the barrels for 7 months. Only 50 dozen available.

100’s of Gift Ideas at Randall’s Chavy Chouet White Burgundy - Direct Import at Wholesale Price Chavy-Chouet Bourgogne Blanc ‘Les Femelottes’ 2011 Normal Shelf Price $48.00 | $29.90 ea $27.90 ea doz. This is an absolutely amazing value chardonnay. It’s a single-site vineyard (lieu dit), that is not far from the famous Puligny Montrachet Premier Cru sites. Hand-picked, carefully made and aged in 600lt barrels, it has the reputation to “over-deliver on quality”, so much so, that it is often poured at Noma, one of the world’s most famous restaurants. 2011 is another lower yielding vintage and this wine shows minerality, ripeness and generosity. The 2011 is possibly even better than the popular 2010 that a great many customers really enjoyed. It is a great wine to buy and enjoy over the next year or two.

Wild Wux Gruner (Green) Veltliner is an organic wine from Kremstal region near Vienna. It’s fresh and lemony with slight mandarin and gooseberry undertones; along with the classic white pepper and doughy nuances of the Gruner Veltliner variety. The World’s First Oyster Wine? Domaine de Majone Picpoul de Pinet 2012 $21.90 The ancient grape Picpoul has been growing around the coastal village of Pinet, on the central French Mediterranean coast for centuries. With the oysters growing in the 7,500 ha saltwater basin the Romans regularly feasted on oysters and probably drank Picpoul. It’s a dry, fresh “riesling on steroids” style.

25% OFF MARC TEMPE BIODYNAMIC ALSATIAN WHITE

There is no better introduction to this small and beautifully bizarre domaine than these words written by the respected US importer Roy Cloud of Vintage 59 Imports; “Of all our growers, Marc Tempé is the most idiosyncratic. The man marches to no drummer but his own, and he does so with blissful confidence devoid of arrogance. He doesn’t care what you or I think, and he doesn’t care about money; he cares about making really good, pure wine that reflects its piece of ground. Powerfully built (he’s called The Bear by at least one little boy in Colmar), hard working, he is also indefatigably upbeat, a quality that has shone steadfastly from the first day I met him in 1997.”

Great Red Burgundy at Importer’s Price! Domaine Patrice Cacheux Bourgogne Hautes Cotes de Nuits 2010 $33ea This single vineyard of “Les Tilles” comes from near the tiny village of Magny Les Villers about 3km in the hills above Nuits St George and Vosne Romanée. This is (of course) made from 100% Pinot Noir, and the vines have a 30y.o. average age and are from a single lieu-dits (a single site or “place that speaks”). The production is only about 200 cases on average per year. Patrice ages the wine in barrels of which 30% are new. Patrice Cacheaux is a meticulous and humble vigneron.
