(in the style of “Oh! Darling” by the Beatles). Zooxanthellae. You're my algae. And I'll always be your coral. Believe me when I tell you. I'll always be your coral.
Do What You Love, the Nuggets Will Follow Michelle R. Hofmann [email protected] NAI 2013 Reno, November 6-9 Thank you for attending my session! I hope that in sharing the lyrics to the songs I have written you will find the inspiration to incorporate (or further the use of) music in your interpretive programs. If you wish to use any of my lyrics for your programs or events please send me an email at the above address. “I Met a Grunion” (in the style of “I Met a Bear” traditional campfire sing along) The other night I saw a sight A sight to see Hard to believe (repeat) A silver flash And then some more The moon shined full On a silver shore (repeat) These little fish I kid you not Surfed up the beach And picked a spot (repeat) To lay their eggs Way up the beach Deep in the sand Where the waves can’t reach (repeat) Until the moon It does not shine Then the baby fish Swim to the brine (repeat)

And that is what We call a run A grunion run They’re really fun! (repeat) “Hungry” (in the style of “Crazy” by Patsy Cline) Hungry I’m hungry for baby seal blubber I’m hungry And tired from swimming so far Where are The ice floes that I need to hunt from? They’re fewer And farther between I must swim Warming Why is my habitat warming? Wondering Does it have something to do with you and you and you? Oh, hungry And wondering when I’ll hold my next seal I’m hungry for seal meat And tired of this heat And I’m wondering what you’re going to do (Repeat) “Zooxanthellae” (in the style of “Oh! Darling” by the Beatles) Zooxanthellae You’re my algae And I’ll always be your coral Believe me when I tell you I’ll always be your coral Zooxanthellae If you leave me I’ll never make it alone Believe me when I beg you Don’t ever leave me alone

When it warmed up And you didn’t feed me anymore Well, you know, I nearly cast you aside When it warmed up And then the seas acidified Well, you know, I nearly bleached out and died Zooxanthellae If you leave me I’ll never make it alone Believe me when I tell you I’ll always give you a home Oh, believe me, algae When it warmed up And you didn’t feed me anymore Well you know I nearly cast you aside When it warmed up And then the seas acidified When you know I nearly bleached out and died Zooxanthellae Please believe me I’ll never make it alone Oh, believe me, algae Believe me when I tell you I’ll always give you a home RAPPORT* RAP “(A Theme is) What I Got” (to the tune of “What I Got” by Sublime) I just gave a program, it did not go well Could not keep ‘em captivated, I’m wonderin’ what the hell? Got to find a reason, a reason things went wrong Got to find a reason why my program bombed I had me a trainer, taught me ‘bout RAPPORT Now I think I understand what it was for One hour’s too short to tell them all I know And I’m realizin’ now its just a seed I sow Now I have a reason to think thematically Be organized, engaging, use analogies Take a small example, perhaps a simile?

Check up on your facts and show balanced theories Theme’s what I got Within my reach And the RAPPORT method now is what I preach It all comes back to you, you’ll finally get your point across Try and test that, you will impress your boss Theme’s what I got Don’t start a riot You’ll know it when your program’s hot A Theme is, what I got, and they’ll remember that A Theme is, what I got, and they’ll remember that I make sure my group’s involved with me I use good humor and I tell them where to pee My program has an intro and an end It’s well prepared and I know my transitions Questions, comments, just bring ‘em on Relate the mission, tell a story, sing a song Let the message, let the theme sink in with them A Theme is, what I got, and they’ll remember that A Theme is, what I got, and they’ll remember that A Theme is, what I got, and they’ll remember that A Theme is, what I got, and they’ll remember that A Theme is, what I got, and they’ll remember that A Theme is, what I got, you got, she’s got, he’s got, we got *RAPPORT is an interpretive evaluation tool from California State Park’s award-winning handbook, Aiming for Excellence
