ABSTRACT

AIMS

Peripheral Diabe,c Neuropathy (PDN) is common complica,on of Type-2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). PDN account for disability and morbidity of pa,ents. also decreased quality of life significantly. Prevalence of PDN is high, approximately 50% of T2DM, especially in uncontrolled blood glycemic index pa,ents. This condi,on determined from the HbA1C level in blood. The aim of this study is to know that high level of HbA1C in T2DM is a risk factor for PDN.

METHODS A case-control study was conducted in T2DM pa,ents who came to Diabe,c and Neurology Outpa, ent clinics during April un,l August 2014. Pa,ents who suffered from PDN defined as cases and pa,ents without PDN as controls. PDN was evaluated by Michigan Diabe,c Neuropathy Score. Data analysis using chi-square with significance level p < 0,05.

RESULTS

High level of HbA1C in T2DM as risk factor for PDN.

A total number of 86 eligible subjects were devided into case and control groups, with each group consisted of 43 pa,ents. There were 31 (72.1.%) pa,ents in case group with high HbA1c level compared to 15 (34.9 %) in control group (p< 0.001) with OR 4.82; CI 95% (1.931-12.041).
