How to Get a Free Email Account This is a free service. You will not be charged in any way to use this service. You can use AOL, MSN or ANY independent internet provider with this account. It does NOT affect any other email accounts you may currently use. NO other changes need to be made to use this free service. If you wish to use this free service please PRINT THESE DIRECTIONS and follow the steps below:

Step # 1: Open your browser – use Internet Explorer or Netscape and go to this address: http://www.yahoo.com

Step # 4: You will be asked to fill in some questions for Yahoo!. They are shown below: This is the first section of the page. The “Yahoo! ID” will be PART of your new email address. Since so many people use this free service please choose a long Yahoo! ID with a couple of numbers in the address. The “Password” is used to retrieve email messages you may receive. This is important – do not forget this password! The “Re-type Password” box is for verification only. It must be the same password you typed in the “Password” box.

This is the middle section of the same screen. This section will give you a “hint” if you forget your password. The “security question” is a hint – you may choose any question. The “Your Answer” is what you could give Yahoo! So they could tell you your password. The “Birthday” is required to be filled in also – you may fill in any birthday you wish – they will NOT check it. “Current Email” is optional – we recommend you do NOT fill this section in unless you want to.

The bottom part of the signup screen is printed below:

The “First Name” and “Last Name” will be shown on ALL email you send from this email address. Please enter what you want to be shown on email sent out from this account. Leave “Language & Content” in the default choice shown. Fill in the “Zip/Postal Code” and the “Gender”. These are not usually displayed on email messages so do not worry. Select your “Occupation” and “Industry” from the drop boxes.

“People Search Listing” is a “white pages” directory if someone wants to look your email address up at Yahoo!. This is optional. We recommend UN-checking the “Contact me occasionally about special offers and Yahoo! Features” box - this is called “Spam”. You may leave it checked if you wish. We also recommend NOT checking the boxes – “Entertainment, Home & Family, Health, etc…” This can also generate unwanted email – Spam. When you complete the form – click the “Submit This Form” button.

Yahoo! contains may online tutorials about using your Yahoo! email account. Feel free to go over the Yahoo! site to find out how to manage your account, sync it with other accounts and using it efficiently.

There is a catch (isn’t there always). You can only keep 6 MB of mail at Yahoo! . That means you only have the space for your mail as about 4 floppy disks. We hope you enjoy the free service!

Possible Problems with your email account: 1.

Your Yahoo! ID is already being used: Select another Yahoo! ID. No person’s Yahoo! ID can be the same. 2. I forgot my password Go to www.yahoo.com and click “Mail” – follow the prompts on the screen. They will walk you through the process to retrieve this password from information you gave when you initially signed up for the free service. 3. I go to Yahoo and click mail – I see a screen with “Inbox”, “Trash”, “Sent” – what is it? Yahoo! tries to remember you so there are times when you do not have to sign in – everything is still ok. 4. Does this interfere with other email accounts I have? NO! No other changes have to be made AT ALL! Separate email accounts do not interfere with each other. Note: Yahoo keeps extensive information online for help. It is a great resource for specific problems.
