[email protected] Referee(s)' Comments to Author: Reviewing: 1 Comments to the Author Thank you for the opportunity to review this manuscript, which I enjoyed reading and which makes a novel contribution to the field of psychoterrorism and drug diffusion across the Middle East. I recommend minor revisions as follows
INTRO: Page 4 Line 22 – “This substance is also diffuse in Iraq” – should read “diffused” Page 4 – Line 26 – “According to Alabdalla (2005), who carried out a chemical analysis in Jordan, of Captagon tablets from 124 seized batches across the country.” – Incomplete sentence Page 4 – Line 28 – “The analysis was done using gas chromatograph–mass spectrometry (GC– MS), confirmed the absence of fenethylline” – doesnt read well. METHODS: Please include some detail on how you analysed the data which was collected from https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/hup?PARAMS=xik_57NJycVhk2EGmPzc6XNdsZkttwYBhrHvyyEgEhT4S3TfBM1xbU3u9ykmmDP3DTtgK8oQos9tna3Wg…

these multiple sources. RESULTS/DISCUSS: Page 6 – line 7 “Among these, five were found of low scientific evidence” – “Among these, five were found TO BE of low scientific evidence” Page 7 – Line 54 – “regular internet” – I think surface web/internet would sound better Page 8 – Line 44 – “effects have alsoside A number of been identified.” – should read: “A Number of side effets have also been identified”
Reviewing: 2 Comments to the Author The present paper from AlImam et al., describes the use of Captagon as a stimulant in ISIL and AlQaeda terrorist settings by means of a research study on Internet sites. The study is original and provides geographical description of Captagon market in the Middle East. Unique points are: 1) Pag 2 Line34: The authors state that: “Theophylline is an endogenous catecholamine,”. However, the theophylline is not an endogenous catecholamine but it is member of the xanthine family, it bears structural and pharmacological similarity to theobromine and caffeine. 2) Cite the recent review: Fenethylline (Captagon) Abuse Local Problems from an Old Drug Become Universal. Katselou M, Papoutsis I, Nikolaou P, Qammaz S, Spiliopoulou C, Athanaselis S. Basic Clin Pharmacol Toxicol. 2016 Aug;119(2):13340. doi: 10.1111/bcpt.12584. Epub 2016 Apr 8. Review. 3) Throughout the manuscript, the Authors report the acronym ISIL (used by the AngloSaxon countries), while on page 8 line 13, pag 22 Fig 6, pag 30 Table 6, they report ISIS. Please, make uniform the acronym. Page 8 line 4144. The phrase is truncated. Date Sent: 08Aug2016
