ISU Ice Dance Judges Seminars In accordance with the Rules 581 and 589 of the ISU Special Regulations for Ice Dancing all International and ISU Judges and Referees are obliged to attend an ISU Ice Dance Judges Seminar within a four (4) year period. In accordance with Rule 589 para 9 b) an individual nominated by the Member for the first time as a Judge for International Competitions must attend one ISU Ice Dance Judges Seminar in the 24 months preceding the nomination. This Seminar must include Trial Judging. Note: The planned judges seminars listed below are to be held after the publication of the lists of officials for season 2003/2004. For this reason an extension in attendance will be granted to those officials who have to fulfil this requirement if they attend one of these seminars. Should such officials fail to attend, their names will be deleted from the list after November 31st, 2003.

1. ISU Recognized Ice Dance Judges Seminars a) The ISU Ice Dance Technical Committee (IDTC) has assigned ISU Recognized Ice Dance Judges Seminars to the following Members: Oberstdorf, Germany* Gdansk, Poland**

September 1st - 4th, 2003 October 30th - November 2nd, 2003

* the first priority will be given to the judges from Germany ** in conjunction with the ISU Junior Grand Prix Event in Gdansk Both Seminars will include Trial Judging. Participation: The ISU Ice Dance Judges Seminars are primarily for the Judges and Referees of the Host/Designated Member. However, Judges and Referees of other Members having a need to attend Seminars, may upon application to the ISU Secretariat, with copies to the Host Member and the Chairperson of the Ice Dance Technical Committee, also attend, subject to the availability of places. These applications must be received at least four (4) weeks prior the date of the respective Seminar. National Judges and Coaches up to an agreed number may also participate in these seminars for purposes of development, additional education and exchange of ideas should space be available. Expenses: i) All expenses for the Moderator(s) of the Seminar will be covered by the ISU. ii) The travel and living expenses (accommodation and meals) for all participants of the Host Member (Referees, Judges, Coaches and demonstrating couple(s) are to be borne by the Host Member. iii) If the Moderator of the Seminar decides that other ice dance demonstrators than the one of the Host Member’s are required, then the travel and living expenses for these invited skaters will be borne by the ISU, with a maximum of two (2) couples. iv) The administrative expenses (use of ice rink, classroom, supporting equipment and facilities and all other off ice expenses) will be borne by the Host Member. v) The travel and living expenses for the participants of any other Members who wish to attend this Seminar are to be borne by their respective Member. vi) The demonstrators will receive (from ISU) a contribution of 500 SFr. - per couple for skaters placed among the first 10 in any ISU Championships and 300 SFr. per couple for skaters not so placed.

b) Should any Member Federation wish to host an Ice Dance Judges Seminar over and above the ISU quota, they may apply to the ISU Secretariat with a copy to the Chairperson of the Ice Dance Technical Committee at least 1

six (6) weeks prior to the start of this Seminar. All expenses related to the organisation of this Seminar including those of Moderator and demonstrators are to be borne by the Host Member.

2. ISU Sponsored Ice Dance Judges Seminar The ISU Ice Dance Technical Committee will host an ISU Sponsored Ice Dance Judges Seminar which will be organized in conjunction with the Czech Skate 2003, ISU Junior Grand Prix Event in: Ostrava, Czech Republic

October 2nd - 5th, 2003

Participation: The following persons are eligible to attend an ISU Sponsored Ice Dance Judges Seminar: a) First consideration will be given to Referees and Judges from Czech Republic and Slovak Republic who need to attend Judges Seminar in 2003. b) If space is available Ice Dance Referees and Judges from other Members who also have to attend a Seminar this year may be considered if they are unable to attend one of the other ISU Recognized Seminars announced above. c) National Ice Dance Judges of the Host Member eligible for the future appointment as Judges for International Competitions (number to be agreed by moderator). d) Ice Dance Coaches of the Host Member (number to be agreed by moderator). The maximum number of ISU/International Referees and Judges participating in this Seminar must not exceed fifteen (15). Members of the above mentioned countries must send to the ISU Secretariat, with copies to the Host Member and the Chairperson of the Ice Dance Technical Committee, an application with the names of Referees, Judges who will participate in this Seminar. The application must be received by August 15th, 2003. The Host Member must also send to the ISU Secretariat, with a copy to the Chairperson of the IDTC, the names of its own Referees, Judges and Coaches who will attend the Seminar. Expenses: The responsibility for the expenses of an ISU Sponsored Ice Dance Judges Seminar are allocated as follows: a) The travel expenses of the participating ISU Championship and International Referees and Judges will be borne by their respective Members. b) The living expenses (room and meals) of the participating Referees and Judges, including those of the Host Member (except National Judges and Coaches) will be borne by the ISU for the period from lunch on Thursday, October 2nd to lunch on October 5th. c) All administrative expenses including the living and travel expenses of the moderators and demonstrating ice dance couple(s) will be borne by the ISU.

Fourth Annual ISU Ice Dance Referees/Judges Conference

The Fourth Annual ISU Ice Dance Referees/Judges Conference is to be held in Munich, Germany

May 7th - 10th, 2003

The main aim of this Conference is to broaden Referees and Judges general knowledge and provide detailed information concerning requirements for the Season 2003/2004. This year there will be a special section concerning the New Judging System. Referees and Judges participating in this Conference must provide dissemination of all information among other Referees, Judges, Coaches and Skaters in their respective countries. As a condition of their attendance a report of such activity must be returned to the Chairman of the IDTC by October 1st, 2003 at the latest. If this is not the case then the IDTC reserve the right to charge to Member of the attending Delegate the cost of Accommodation and food for the period of the Referees’ Conference. Participation: One person from a Member, having ISU or International Referees on the current list, will be personally invited to attend by the Ice Dance Technical Committee through their respective Member. In addition, an ISU or International Judge from a Member not having Referees on the current list may be invited at the discretion of the Committee. The total number of participants will not exceed thirty (30). All participants must have a good knowledge of the English language. 2

Expenses: The responsibility for this Conference is as follows: a) The administrative expenses will be borne by ISU; b) The living expenses (room and meals) of the participating Referees and Judges, including those of the Host Member will be borne by the ISU from dinner on Wednesday, May 7th, to lunch on Saturday, May 10th. The registration will be at 7.00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7th. (Special allowance for only one extra night may be considered in accordance with flight schedule problems). c) The travel expenses will be reimbursed by the ISU to a limit up to SFr 600 - per person for representatives of West European countries, up to SFr. 800 - per person for representatives of East European countries, up to SFr.1,200 for representatives of North America and Middle Asia and up to SFr. 1,500 - per person for representatives of Far East and Oceanic regions. Members concerned must confirm (by fax or e-mail) the attendance of the invited Referee/Judge by notifying the ISU Secretariat with copy to the Chairperson of the Ice Dance Technical Committee by April 20th, 2003. If the person is unable to attend, the Member may suggest an alternate for consideration. The program of the Conference, hotel information and other details will be distributed to participants as soon as possible by the ISU Secretariat.

III.

Ice Dance Judges Examination

In accordance with Rule 589 para 10 e) & f), to be eligible for promotion to the class of "ISU Judge" the recommended candidate must have passed the ISU Ice Dance Judges Examination. Nomination to take the Examination will be made by the Member. Members may not nominate candidates until they have complied with the conditions of sub paragraphs a) to e) in the above mentioned Rule. Candidates having passed the examination will immediately be appointed by the IDTC and added to the current list of ISU Judges. The Ice Dance Technical Committee announces that the Ice Dance Judges Examination will be held on the occasion of the Senior International competition "Nebelhorn Trophy 2003" in: Oberstdorf, Germany

September 4th - 7th, 2003

Applications to participate must be submitted by the Member concerned, on behalf of their candidates, to the ISU General Secretary by April 15th 2003. The application forms that are not correctly completed will not be accepted. The Examination will consist of a written part and a practical part with Trial Judging. Full details of the Examination are available on request, through the ISU Secretariat. The Examination will be conducted in English by Examiners appointed by the IDTC. A Member whose Judge does not display a working of English, in the opinion of the IDTC, shall reimburse the ISU for the living expenses (room and meals) of that Judge. Expenses: a) The travel and living expenses of the Examiners will be borne by the ISU. b) The administrative expenses (room and supply) will be borne by the ISU. c) The living expenses (room and meal) of the attending candidates from dinner on Wednesday, September 3rd until breakfast on Sunday, September 7th will be borne by the ISU. d) The travel expenses of the attending candidates will be borne by the respective Members. The candidates are required to bring with them the Special Regulations for Ice Dancing 2002, the ISU Ice Dance Rhythms Booklet and pertinent ISU Communications.
