This exhibition takes a fresh look at the artistic process of Vincent van Gogh. While recognized for the intensity and speed with which he often produced paintings during his 10 year career, less well known is the deliberate and methodical process he also brought to many of the same subjects. Approximately 30 paintings, alongside related drawings and technical photographs, go beneath the surface of some of the artist’s most renowned works to examine the ways in which he created nearly identical compositions. Phillips Collection, through Jan 26.

Our America: Latino Presence in American Art More than 90 works of art across all media by significant Latino artists active from the 1950s to today give voice to their broader American experience. Drawn from the museum’s pioneering permanent collection of Latino art, the exhibition explores how Latino artists shaped the artistic movements of their day and recalibrated key themes in American art and culture. American Art Museum, through Mar 2.

Corcoran Gallery of Art Mia Feuer’s new project is a haunting vision of nature consumed, transformed and twisted by human need. Inspired by the artist’s experiences in the oil-producing landscapes of the Canadian tar sands, the Arctic Circle and the Suez Canal, An Unkindness explores the relationships between human infrastructure and the natural world, through Mar 9.

American Journeys—Visions of Place is a new installation of pre-1945 American paintings and sculpture collection that conveys the changing notion of place in the history of American art. The reinstallation is devoted to how the ideas of place and American artistic identity have shifted over time through increased communication and connectedness. The galleries are installed in a variety of styles to evoke the time in which the works were created.

Workt by Hand: Hidden Labor and Historical Quilts Over time, quilts have been revered as nostalgic emblems of the past, dismissed as women’s work, and hailed as examples of American ingenuity. This exhibition breaks new ground by examining quilts through the lens of contemporary feminist theory. Revealing this medium’s shifting cultural status, the exhibition explores issues of anonymity versus authorship and fine art versus craft. The display showcases 35 18th–20th-century quilts from the Brooklyn Museum’s renowned decorative arts collection. National Museum of Women in the Arts, Dec 20 through Apr 27.

To your family from the Four Seasons family we wish you a Holiday Season and a New Year filled with health, peace and happiness!
