Information sheet for pilot applicants / German language requirements (for ab initio pilots) 1. Facts Before starting pilot training or employment with Swiss International / Swiss European Air Lines AG the assessment team arranges a qualification testing program for the candidates. In this context AKAD Language+Culture provides the necessary language requirement tests. The language of instruction during pilot training is German which demands a specific level of proficiency. The challenging schedule leaves no time for simultaneously improving existing skills and the candidates must show proof of the minimum requirement at the time of application. Exception: For applicants with French as their native or everyday language who can prove four years of German instruction this certificate must be available before the start of pilot training, if insufficient knowledge of German is evident at the interview (the final stage of selection).

2. Requirements for acceptance to the pilot training program of Swiss International / Swiss European Air Lines AG At the time of application all candidates must provide one of the following as evidence of the obligatory German language ability: •

Applicants with German as their native language or language of everyday use: No proof of German required.

Applicants with French as their native language or language of everyday use: Intermediate German knowledge is required at the time of solicitation. To this end, four years of German instruction must be proven (school certificates/course confirmation). Later, about four months after the start of the selection process, the German skills should be so good that the interview (last step of the selection process) is possible in German. Should the exhibited level not correspond to our requirements, then the German skills must be improved and be documented in the form of the corresponding certificate – Goethe Diploma or AKAD Language+Culture Test (see section 3: Test/Diploma). Applicants who cannot prove the required four years of German instruction must be able to show that they possess the corresponding certificate – Goethe Diploma or AKAD Language+Culture Test (see section 3: Test/Diploma) - at the time of the solicitation.

All other applicants: Proof of the corresponding certificate – Goethe Diploma or AKAD Language+Culture Test (see section 3: Test/Diploma) – at the time of solicitation.
