Preface The UN General Assembly has adopted Seventeen (17) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with 169 targets as part of “Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”, as a universal agreement to develop a world based on principles of equality and justice. The Goals are based on the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) and beyond, and are as under: Goal 1 Goal 2 Goal 3 Goal 4 Goal 5 Goal 6 Goal 7 Goal 8 Goal 9 Goal 10 Goal 11 Goal 12 Goal 13 Goal 14 Goal 15

The Goals have already come into effect from January 1, 2016. As countries initiate action to achieve the targets set under SDGs, it is important to involve the masses in the program through scientific discussions, R&D and awareness building. As a humble step in this direction, the “International Conference on Sustainable & Development: Challenges & Prospects” has been organized by the Desh Bhagat University, Mandi Gobindgarh, Punjab, India, in collaboration with United Nations Educational Scientific Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on 6th and 7th October, 2017. The Conference focuses on Goals 4, 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 15 and 17. The deliberations during the Conference are hoped to generate data and innovative ideas to effectively implement the SDG. Editors
