“Autumn School of Magnetic Resonance Applications in Medicine & Neuroscience”

18 October 2018, Villa Santa Teresa – Bagheria (Pa)

AIMS AND RECIPIENTS The basic course of the “Autumn School of Magnetic Resonance Applications in Medicine & Neuroscience” aims to tackle and develop the principles behind MR methods and techniques. We welcome any participants with at least a three-year university degree such as Radiography, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering and all those (i.e. Radiologists, Radio-oncologists, Oncologists, Neurologists, Neurosurgeons, Radiographers) who, utilize MR applications at different levels, or who want to acquire or expand professional skills by attending one or more course modules since registration to single modules is allowed. The basic course also provides propaedeutic competences towards the advanced course, whose contents will soon be released in detail. The project also offers the opportunity to attend to one or more basic modules to undergraduate students in Physics, Chemistry and Engineering with the opportunity to earn University credits. These opportunities will be regulated by agreements with University Departments approved by the Director of the International School. The admission to the courses will be evaluated by the Chair of SC and applications submitted with also a MR project proposal are preferred. Entries will be assessed on a case-to-case basis by the President of the Scientific Board. The most successful application will be rewarded with a free admission to the course. Some participants might be eligible to a discounted fee, in which case the eligibility will be assessed on a case-to-case basis. The basic course will be propaedeutic to the advanced course which will take place next spring and whose contents will be soon go public and will also include any topics from the previous course that need further discussion.

AIMS OF THE PROJECT The courses are designed and structured with the aim to allow the participant to acquire in-depth skills regarding technologies and methodologies in Magnetic Resonance, from clinical practice to scientific research. Thanks to the collaboration with the most affluent scientists in the field and experts from industry, the course will include basic concepts of physics, technology, methodology and MR safety related to the use of Magnetic Resonance methodologies, leading the participant towards adequate knowledge and then move on to acquire additional skills on advanced applications of Magnetic Resonance methods and techniques, now of huge interest in Medicine, Neuroscience, Applied Physics, Biomedical Engineering and Industry. The contents are selected in order to provide, since the start, a thorough and interactive vision of the complex operative scenario of Magnetic Resonance, which, because of the fast-paced technological progress of the recent years, requires those in the field to obtain an ever growing level of competence. The courses are characterized, in particular, by practical sessions, guided by high profile tutors and also with the collaboration of experts of the main industries in the field, all activities are supervised by the Director of the Project. Among the objectives of the Project IS-AMRapp in Medicine and Neurosciences are: the creation of an international network of contacts and skills and the realization of research programs on a national and international scale.

ADVANCED COURSE “Spring School of Advanced Magnetic Resonance Applications in Medicine & Neuroscience” The advanced course will focus on the recent progress in MR methodologies and technologies applied to Brain Investigation and clinical practice with exploring all possible benefits in harmony with the WHO objectives of personalized medicine. These advancements require a constant update of skills and knowledge within the MR field also in terms of quality of investigation and safety of the patient (high field MR, multimodal/hybrid Imaging, MR-HIFU). MR techniques introduced and elaborated in the basic course will be further developed with the collaboration of national and international experts, not only with the aim of good practice but also exploring different new scenarios and applications such as multimodal MRI, MRI-guided focused ultrasound and many others. The great potential of advanced MR diagnostics and how it aids precision medicine will be discussed, as well as high field MR systems (>= 3T)
