Invitation to contribute: The Routledge International Handbook of StudentCentred Learning and Instruction (SCLI)

Dear Colleagues, We are in contact with Routledge (UK) to edit and publish “The handbook of student-centred learning and instruction (SCLI).” Interested scholars who want to contribute a chapter (no more than 8000 words) are invited to email Sabine Hoidn, [email protected], by November 30, 2017, with a brief abstract (no more than 150-200 words).

1. Rationale behind the handbook/About the book The Routledge Handbook of Student-Centred Learning and Instruction aims to foster understanding of SCLI to facilitate deeper learning outcomes and processes for an increasing number of diverse students – from pre-school to higher and postsecondary education. This handbook provides a thorough overview of the fundamentals of SCLI and critically discusses the leading views as well as new directions and developments in SCLI theory, policy, research and practice with each of the latter four ultimately impacting the kinds of learning opportunities that are presented to our students. In drawing together leading theorists, scholars, practitioners and policy makers, this handbook discusses major analytical lenses and reflects on the most recent developments surrounding SCL. The content of the Handbook of SCLI is organised into four thematic parts:

Theory: presents a comprehensive international state-of-the-art account of influential SCLI theories;

Policy: reviews policy goals and measures put in place to promote SCLI – with a focus on Europe and the US;

Research: examines and critically discusses state-of-the-art empirical research results on the effectiveness and impact of SCLI;

Practice: provides a look at how SCL is adapted in different education settings – good practices and lessons learned.

The handbook constitutes an essential resource with international appeal, offering scholars, educators, administrators, students and policy-makers new insights into both the roots as well as the latest thinking and evidence surrounding SCLI. This timely and unique volume provides different stakeholders with systematic access to state-of-the-art scholarship and effective education practice embedded in the wider political, economic and social context in which education institutions operate.
