AS CDU Library Newsletter Welcome to our 3rd and final Library Newsletter of 2012. As we approach the end of the academic year this Newsletter provides some resources and links for holiday planning, reading and activities.

Events 1. Ceramic artist-in-residence Miki Oka’s exhibition in the Library foyer on the 24th and 25th August attracted an appreciative audience from CDU, CSC and the local community. Work on transforming the Library foyer to an exhibition space is progressing and we look forward to hosting more events in the future.

2. Our “What can you build with discarded books and videos” challenge for CSC students from the 27th-31st August was enthusiastically received and displayed some great construction, team-building and problemsolving skills. Participating students created a village, towers, space station, dining room furniture, and a man complete with toes. A special thank you to Marcela Ganicoche for judging the entries.

As part of Teaching and Learning Week Library staff provided an introduction to new services, resources and technologies, including the new Library website, Summon, LibGuides, Streaming Video and eBooks. 4. Thank you to all contributors to our Biggest Book Fair on September 20th – we raised $200 for the Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation. 5. A big thank you to our Leonie Moore-Smith for organising a very well-run and patronized Melbourne Cup Sweep and congratulations to the lucky winners.

New DVDs The Library has purchased a wide range of DVDs this semester with an emphasis on teaching and training support materials, classic literature on film and Australian feature films and TV series. All DVDs are now available for the same loan period as books.
