BBC Residents of the Year In 2009, BBC students Ryan Spellins and Maggie Butler were awarded the title “BBC Residents of the Year.” Their grades, leadership, and passion for involvement not only set them up for success, but impacted their peers, university, and community.

Ryan Spellins, a second-year BBC student, was involved with the BBC before he even started classes at USF. His first experiences with the BBC were in Panama on a study abroad trip. “That experience opened my eyes to the importance of being involved with as many BBC events as I possibly could.” Maggie Butler, a second-year BBC student, shared Ryan’s enthusiasm for the BBC. Her experiences in the BBC led her to mentor and inspire other students by serving as a Resident Assistant for the BBC. Ryan Spellins and Maggie Butler, 2009 BBC Residents of the Year

For 2010, the BBC will be awarding two more students with the title “BBC Residents of the Year.” How can that be you?

- Stay focused. Concentrate on your classes, studying, and exams. - Stay involved. Participate in BBC activities as often as you can. Points will be awarded to students at each activity. - Stay motivated. Take advantage of everything that is offered for you— your future starts now. Students who are candidates for this award will be asked to submit an essay at the end of the semester. A panel of judges will review your essay, level of involvement, and overall grades. Winners will be recognized at the end-of-the-year BBC Award Ceremony and have their names added to the plaque in the BBC office. Volume 2, Issue 5 january’s birthdays

GPA Wars! In the fall semester of 2009, the Bulls Business Community launched a new competition called “GPA Wars!” to inspire students to achieve good grades in the classroom. Eric Holland, a BBC Resident Assistant, thought of this idea at the beginning of the fall semester. “The first semester in college is usually the most difficult. I want our residents to know that we are recognizing their achievements and encouraging them to work together,” says Eric, as he wheels his mountain bike into the residence hall. Eric, along with BBC Resident Assistants Maggie Butler and Matt Kelsey, are planning an award for the pod with the highest cumulative GPA. The results for this semester are: POD 4300: 3.05

POD 4400: 3.32 POD 4500: 3.20 Congratulations, pod 4400! We would also like to congratulate Matt Kelsey, Sheri Sukhu, Summer Rose, Jamie Wendl, and Andrew Whittom for earning a 4.0 in the fall semester!

Welcome Home, Ashley! “Believe it or not, one of my hobbies is homework,” laughs new BBC student Ashley Ciccarello. Ashley, a freshman student at USF, had no trouble succeeding her first semester. With hobbies like homework, volunteering, and intramural sports, it’s no wonder that college comes easy for this marketing major. Ashley is involved in softball intramural sports, Cornerstone Student Fellowship, and student orientations. During the fall semester, Ashley worked with other BBC students in the College of Business Dean’s Office, and plans to become an Orientation Team Leader in the summer of 2010. As if this wasn’t enough for a student’s first semester in college, Ashley decided to search for more experiences. She learned about the Bulls Business Community through other involved students like second-years Ryan Spellins, Steven Schertzer, and Kristen Keese. The friendships she made with these students inspired her to become a part of a community that stressed involvement. “I joined the Bulls Business Community because it’s fun and there are many opportunities. I really want to be involved in networking events, etiquette dinners, and company tours.” Ashley isn’t sure what her future path looks like just yet, but she’s taking the right steps to get there.
