Jazz vocalist Janet Planet releases an album of Bob Dylan songs that features thirteen of Mr. Dylan’s compositions from the 1960’s. Ms. Planet is most influenced by lyrics, and in constant quest to connect the meaning, physicality and musicality of words. Like many other jazz and cabaret singers, Janet Planet has drawn from the “American Songbook” for material, but as an artist she is continually reaching beyond traditional boundaries for inspiration. Janet was drawn to the concept of a “Dylan Songbook” not only for the poetic value of Dylan’s work but also for the musical challenge his melodies posed for a jazz musician. Planet reflects, “I am a lover of words. Bob’s prose inspired me to sing his “songbook.” As it turns out, I became a legitimate Dylan fan only after I tackled, articulated and assimilated his words... wrestled with, tampered with, and slept with his words.” The original arrangements are Janet Planet collaborations with long-time musical partners Tom Theabo and Tom Washatka. Tom Theabo is featured on lead guitar throughout the album. Janet Planet has been self-produced and managed for the majority of her 25-year career. She has enjoyed a steady and respected career as a recording artist, performer, producer, university and private voice instructor, and master-class clinician. Janet Planet is a native of and resides in Wisconsin. Ms. Planet realized a surge of awareness with her 2009 release “Of Thee I Sing,“ which gained critical attention and national airplay. Janet Planet recently performed headlining engagements at New York’s Metropolitan Room, Feinstein’s at the Regency, and Rochester International Jazz Festival for which she received rave reviews. ###
