Tax Deduction Cards (Skattekort) th st From December 15 to 31 , 2012, the Tax Adminstration (Skatteetaten) will have sent out Tax Deduction Cards (Skattekort) for the 2013 fiscal year. The tax deduction card shows how much tax your employer should deduct from your pay. It is important that you check that the information is correct and then bring it in to your employer. The tax cards are based on your last tax assessment and are adjusted according to your expected income in 2013. You may not have received the tax deduction card automatically if you applied for it in 2012 for the first time. In this case you can contact the Tax Administration and apply again. There is an online service, MinID, or you can fill out a form and bring it to the Tax Administration office: Skatt vest Bergen (Nonnesetergaten 4, open from 9:00 to 15:00) Tax Return During January, you will begin to receive all the necessary information for your Tax Return. Keep all the statements from your employer, banks etc. to be able to check the numbers that will be recorded on the final form which will be sent to you at the end of March. You must verify that the pre-‐entered information is correct. If the information contains errors or information is lacking, you must change the tax return. If you have no changes to make to the pre-‐completed tax return, you do not have to submit it. In such case, you are deemed to have submitted the tax return with the pre-‐entered information. As a foreigner, you can deduct 10% or up to a maximum of 40, 000 NOK from your income on the first 2 assessments you are considered a resident in Norway and this should already be included in your tax rate. You should also note that transaction costs on your bank account, interest paid on loans/mortgages and travel expenses exceeding a certain limit, are also deductible. If you have changes to the pre-‐entered information, you must fill in the amounts you believe to be correct and submit the changed form to th the tax return by April 30 at the latest. You can choose whether you wish to send it by mail to the tax office or via the internet.
