Spotlight on: Decatur Boland Decatur is 6 and 3/4 years old and has been studying with Mr. Tyler on Piano. Click here to learn more about Decatur. Tanglewood Music Festival

Every summer the Boston Symphony Orchestra packs its bags and heads west to the Berkshires for their summer season at Tanglewood Music Festival. While there are dozens of inspiring concerts all summer long, the easiest for our families and students to attend are the Sunday matinees. Bring a picnic, buy lawn tickets (the cheapest!) and enjoy the live music! The drive is 2-2/12 hours up rt. 7. Sneak out during the last piece (or plan to hang for an hour after!) to avoid the crawl back to rt. 7. Please visit www.tanglewood.org for complete concert information.

What it means to be a Suzuki parent...and how one mom empowered herself

"Oh no, I've gained a quarter tone!"

For Christina Altier, the revelation came a little later than she would have preferred. In hindsight, she believes that learning with your child is the best way to succeed in the Suzuki method. She is doing just that with her youngest daughter Bella who plays the cello. Read the Altiers' story here. Piano Corner: Fresh Summer Routines Responsible piano owners should have pianos tuned twice a year--once in early summer and once in the early winter is ideal. Spring weather with its highs, lows and rapid fluxes in humidity wreak havoc on pianos. into summer, it is time to call the piano tuner. If you need a good piano tuner, just ask us! As you move into the rhythms of summer, why not incorporate a substantial review routine, taking the time and energy to incorporate all of your new skills into your earlier repertoire? Need some motivation? Try these: 1. Invite a piano friend over and do Mr. Tyler is head of the your review together. Piano Dept. 2. Put on a mini-concert when you have guests in your home. 3. A Progressive Party! Everyone plays on each other's piano at each home. 4. Play your review with your eyes closed! 5. Play your review cross-handed. Consult with your teacher before attempting anything in book 2 and beyond. 6. Try playing review pieces in a new key, such as G major or A minor. Ask your teacher for suggestions. 7. Create review flashcards. Parents can write the name of each piece on the top, and let your young pianists decorate and illustrate them. When it's time for review, shuffle and draw your next piece. 8. We have a "Go Fish" game you can "take out" for the week.
