LoadGuard® Hoists Prepared to BGV D8 Plus German Safety regulations for load holding above people when loads are static Lifting capacities from 160 to 2000kg

8

A range of high integrity hoists prepared to BGV D8 Plus German Safety Regulation (published by VPLT) for hoists with the special characteristic of being able to hold loads at rest above people without using a secondary safety component. The hoists allow (when people are present below the load): • Load holding when loads are static The hoists do not allow (when people are present below the load): • Assembly/ disassembly during set up • Staging processes involving movement. LoadGuard® Hoists to BGV D8 Plus have the following features: • 2 separate brakes • Limit switches not required (but available on some hoists) • Overload monitoring – shutdown. A friction clutch is permitted if it is not within the load path when the electric Chain Hoist is disconnected from the power supply. • Underload monitoring- not required • Factor of Safety – 10:1. The lifting capacity is de-rated Based on instructions from the German Employer’s Liability Insurance Association the ratings of BGV D8 Plus Hoists have to change. The lifting capacity now becomes Rated Lifting Capacity, this is calculated by dividing the maximum lifting capacity (with 10:1 safety factor) by the dynamic factor. Note* the BGV D8 Plus standard calls for Direct Control Hoists (without low voltage controls and electrical limit switches). LTM can supply the LoadGuard® as direct or low voltage control.

LoadGuard® Hoists Prepared to BGV C1 German Safety Regulations for moving loads above people without using a secondary suspension system Lifting capacities from 160 to 2000kg

9

High integrity Hoists prepared to BGV C1 German safety regulation These hoists allow the following (when people are present below the load) • Assembly/ disassembly in set up • Load holding when loads are static i.e. when the load is in a fixed position • Staging processes involving movement LoadGuard® Hoists to BGV C1 have the following features: • 2 separate brakes • 4 position limit switches – limit switches & emergency limit switches • Shutdown at 120% of rated load (using loadcell) • Underload monitoring – (using loadcell) • Factor of Safety – 10:1. The lifting capacity is de-rated Based on instructions from the German Employer’s Liability Insurance Association the ratings of BGV C1 Hoists have to change. The lifting capacity now becomes Rated Lifting Capacity, this is calculated by dividing the maximum lifting capacity (with 10:1 safety factor) by the dynamic factor; this has the effect of reducing all the previously stated lifting capacities. Hoists to this regulation are tested and approved by TUV offices throughout Germany and relevant certification issued. Each BGV C1 system has to be approved on site by an Approved Theatrical Engineer when integration tests are carried out. Special control systems monitor the special features and in the event of any of the safety features being breached- overload, slack chain or emergency limit contacted, the entire system shuts down. A bypass for the emergency limit is required so that an inspection engineer is able to test limit switches and brakes of the hoists individually.

Control systems operate manually or can operate via computerisation, with single or variable speeds, using encoders which can monitor the position of the hoists / load. We can fit absolute and/ or incremental encoders with very high accuracy, encoders may be required to control hoist positions etc. Load Cells are built into each hoist suspension, these are used to monitor under or overload but can also give readouts of actual loads Although this is a German regulation, there should be no doubting its safety. The standard is not officially approved for use in the UK and its selection is subject to a suitable risk assessment being carried out

Electric Chain Hoist considerations And custom solutions LTM offer as standard… When assessing an electric hoist application it is advisable to consider the following: • Environment Is the hoist to be used or located outside? if the answer is yes, then consideration must be given to the level of protection provided. i.e. a cover to park the hoist under when not in use, a rain cover or a higher level of enclosure protection - see below. • Power Supply Is there an adequate power supply available adjacent to the hoist location? What is the distance between the hoist and the supply?

We offer 1 phase hoists but always recommend 400V, 3Ph, 50Hz; Please specify the power available if different.

It is recommended that the supply cables and equipment are checked to ensure compatibility and that the installation conforms to the current local standards. After considering the above, the following custom hoist features from LTM maybe of interest to you

Upper or Lower Suspension;

Travel Limit switches;

Upper suspension can be an eye, swivel hook or custom plate.

Locking captive hooks are also available

Mid travel limits - to stop travel in one movement direction for position. (Note requires custom Guardian® control panel which is available from LTM).

Two emergency limits in addition to working limit switches

Handles; •

We add carrying handles and Cee Connectors to the chain hoist body.

Control; • Portable or wall mounted control units to operate multiple chain hoist systems through our Guardian® and Guardian® Pro range from our control division •

Radio control (wireless) – for single or multiple hoist systems

NOTE - Guardian® control systems are needed for feedback from the encoders (which LTM can provide).

Load Cells; Two options are available.

• Mechanical stops (to fit on chain to stop travel movement - a simple but efficient solution)

Installed on hoists in the eye or hook suspension. Load cells can be fitted to eye and hook suspension to detect pre-set under and overloads or show an actual load on a hoist.

Positional Encoders;

External load cells- shackle or plate type can be supplied as load cells.

Two types are available. •

Incremental

Absolute

NOTE - Separate monitoring system and cabling will also be required and can be provided by LTM.

Hoists working outside or in aggressive atmosphere; •

The standard IP rating for a LoadGuard® hoist is IP55, we can upgrade to IP65 Class (Ingress Protection), this is protected against dust and low pressure water jets from any direction.

To further protect your hoists, there are a number of additional protection (extra cost) features including: •

Galvanised Chain – The biggest threat to protecting outdoor hoists is to the chain. Galvanised chain is the best protection against the elements and we can over oil the chain to protect it further.

Drainage Holes – This allows any water that penetrates the hoist to pass through the body, rather than collecting inside.

Release & over Pressure Valves – This valve acts as a barrier preventing any moisture in the air being drawn into the body. When a hoist is hot from running or from being out in the sun all day the air heats and forms a partial vacuum, the hoist later cools and can suck moist air into the hoist body- the pressure difference built up inside the hoist will naturally draw in air.

The valve is similar in function to Gore-Tex in outdoor clothing, it allows air out but does not allow water in, it equalises the pressure difference, whilst preventing moisture entering •

Dipped Transformer – we can tropically dip the transformers, this is a waxy protection that coats the sensitive transformer completely.

Weather Covers – The weather cover will protect the hoist from the worst of the elements.

Stainless steel components

Note: If you have any doubts or questions regarding which electric hoist to purchase or the application you are using it in please ask a member of the LTM sales team to prior to purchasing!
