The reasons for a choice

Satellite location for TV and radio transmissions Every satellite is positioned in an orbit around the equator at a distance of about 36,000 km from the earth. Each satellite is in a fixed and well defined position on this orbit, shown in degrees in relation to the Greenwich meridian. The Astra 1 satellites are all positioned at 19.2° East of Greenwich. The Eutelsat and Hot Bird satellites are all positioned at 13° East of Greenwich. The Atlantic Bird 3 ( AB3 ) satellite is positioned 5° to the West of the prime (Greenwich) meridian. Satellite reception area (Foot-Print) Since the satellites are fed exclusively by solar panels, the power available for transmitting to the ground is very low. They are therefore forced to concentrate all their transmitting energy in a very small area of the Earth, so the signals can be received by parabolic antennas which are relatively small. The effect of the signal transmission is like the light beam of a car: more powerful at the centre of the beam, weaker and weaker towards the edges. These areas, where one can receive the signals delivered from the satellite, are called Foot-Prints, and each satellite has a different Foot-Print depending on its power. For example, "older" satel-

lites have a smaller transmission power, and hence a smaller Foot-Print. Given the power ratings of the major satellites, TELECO has chosen for its whole range of satellite reception systems three dish dimensions: 50 cm, 65 cm, 85 cm - able to meet most of every camping enthusiast's requirements.

FOOTPRINT tips to choose the correct dish size Reception of TV and Radio signals broadcast by the 4 groups of satellites is guaranteed within the darker (footprint) areas. It should be remembered that signals become weaker when the sky is overcast or rainy, and this could lead to images with black and white dots, or the images could even disappear. When choosing the satellite system to be installed on your vehicle, make sure the dimensions of the parabola are suited for receiving the satellite signals in your viewing area.

Note that BBC channels are transmitted by Astra 2D which has a smaller footprint.

OPTION

GPS-SKEW This option allows for reception of satellite signals to be AUTOMATICALLY improved in the neighbouring SOUTH-EAST (Turkey) SOUTH-WEST (Morocco) areas of Footprints (e.g. Turkey-Morocco). If ideal reception is obtained by positioning the LNB HORIZONTALLY in the middle of Foot Prints, after shifting towards the SOUTH EAST or SOUTH WEST ends of Foot Prints, the LNB should be turned in a COUNTER-CLOCKWISE or CLOCKWISE direction to make up for the decreased signal strength resulting from the CURVATURE of the Earth. The GPSSKEW option will AUTOMATICALLY detect your position via the GPS, and rotates the LNB AUTOMATICALLY to the position of MAXIMUM signal reception. 11

Manual tracking satellite antennas

Anodized corrosion proof aluminium pole with safe and reliable inside locking system. Satellite pointing accuracy is ensured by a fully watertight, high-precision mechanical reduction gear in oil bath.

During travelling, the dish is fully folded down onto the roof, to a height of just 17,5 - 18 cm. 13

All dish tilting and turning operations can be conveniently controlled from inside the vehicle.


New aluminium mast: lightweight, provides firm support for the dish, guarantees improved wind stability and enables to make the most of the available reception surface.

Satellite pointing is very easy thanks to two highly efficient dish tilt indicator systems:

Manual Satellite Antenna with Graduated Scale


Voyager Plus is equipped with a Graduated Scale enabling the angle of the dish to be set extremely quickly, while remaining inside the vehicle. To correctly set the angle, it is important that the vehicle is level, if it is not you must add to or subtract the vehicle angle from that of the dish. After setting the correct angle, you just need to turn the dish so it is pointing southwards using the internal mast, and optimise positioning by checking the picture on your TV screen. Manual Satellite Antenna with Electronic Inclinometer


Voyager Matic is equipped with an Electronic Inclinometer with LED display, which shows the absolute dish angle (± 2°) even if the vehicle is not level. Voyager Matic makes it much easier and quicker to position the dish, because the vehicle angle is not relevant any more. It is ideally suitable for use with Digital Receivers: after setting the correct angle, you just need to turn the dish so it is pointing southwards using the internal mast, and optimise positioning by checking the picture on your TV screen.

Portable satellite kit

Easy to assemble and disassemble…And it takes up very little room when stored.

The Kit Carry Sat was designed expressly to be assembled and reassembled every time the vehicle is moved, or even every night. The pre-fitted dish has an LNB boom that can be reclined and a pole fixing bracket divided into two sections, allowing the entire kit to be stowed in just a few seconds. All Carry Sat models can be connected to any kind of satellite receiver: Analog (eg. TSR 6012) and Digital (e.g.TSDR 5000 CI, Mikro Digital 1000CI, RDS 2000 FTA ). Use the FSAT1 TRACKER and B SAT to facilitate pointing with the digital receiver.

This antenna was designed and manufactured starting from the experience and great success we gained with the TELEPLUS antenna during many years. Great care was given to increasing the gain curve, which resulted in an even higher sensitivity to weak signals. Thanks to the POLARITY DIRECTION MECHANISM, it is possible to receive all TV (Digital and Analog) signals which are transmitted on both HORIZONTAL and VERTICAL polarity with top performance (Digital broadcasting caused the VERTICAL polarity 25

signals to increase in some countries such as Italy and UK). The set includes a low-noise amplifier with adjustable gain which operates at 12/230 Volt.
