Important Findings Rural – 191.75 General Index increased by 1.24 per cent in May, 2011 over April, 2011. Urban – 183.11 General Index increased by 1.71 per cent in May, 2011 over April, 2011. The increase in index during the month was mainly due to increase in the prices of Jowar, milk & groundnut oil in food group and the price of pan leaf, country & foreign liquor in pan, supari and tobacco group in both urban and rural areas.

Rural – 189.41 General Index increased by 1.06 per cent in April, 2011 over March, 2011. Urban – 180.04 General Index increased by 0.38 per cent in April, 2011 over March, 2011. The increase in index during the month was mainly due to increase in the prices of Jowar in food group. However the prices of wheat, onion, garlic and sugar have decreased in both rural and urban areas.

Rural – 187.43 General Index decreased by 0.39 per cent in March, 2011 over February, 2011. Urban – 179.36 General Index decreased by 0.01 per cent in March, 2011 over February, 2011. The decrease in index during the month was mainly due to decrease in the prices of vegetables specially onion, tomato, garlic and sugar in food group. However during the month the prices of jowar and milk increased in both rural and urban areas.
