se five items you can probably find in the medicine cabinet or in a craft drawer at your house to make a mummy for Halloween.

What You’ll Need: • White pipe cleaners • Cotton balls • 1-inch wide gauze • Glue • Scissors 1. Bring ends of pipe cleaner together. Make a 1"-1½" loop in center. Twist twice at end of loop. 2. Fold another pipe cleaner over first pipe cleaner at 90 degree angle. Twist pipe cleaners together. 3. Cut an 8" piece of another pipe cleaner. Fold in half to 4". Twist cut ends together to make arms. 4. Place arms under mummy’s “neck” in between the pipe cleaners. Twist all four “legs” together under arms to form chest area. 5. Twist two pipe cleaners together all the way to the end to make a leg. Repeat for other leg. 6. Insert part of cotton ball into head loops. 7. Divide a cotton ball in half and pull apart enough to fit each arm length. Put glue on

arm. Fold cotton over arm to glue in place. Repeat with other arm. 8. Apply glue to chest area. Pull apart a cotton ball to fit around chest, fold around to back to glue in place. 9. Glue cotton to legs as you did to arms. 10. Cut four pieces of gauze 4"-5" long. Set aside. 11. Place edge of gauze roll at neck. Fold over head and wrap loosely around head and neck. As you wrap, glue loose edges in place using dots of glue.

12. Fold the cut pieces of gauze over edges of hands, apply glue to edges and glue into place. You may have to hold these in place while you bring the continuous piece of gauze down under the arm. Wrap loosely around arm, covering the cut piece over

hand. Tuck in and glue the loose edges with dots of glue. Wrap gauze back to body of mummy. Cross the chest, wrap the other arm, and return to chest area. Wrap around body, crossing shoulders and chest. 13. Fold the cut pieces of gauze over mummy’s feet; glue as you did with hands. 14. Wrap continuous gauze several times around body and start wrapping down one leg, covering the foot strip. Go back up leg to body. Repeat for other foot and leg. 15. When back up to body, fold gauze between legs to cover cotton. Cut gauze, leaving a 1" strip. Fold in cut edge of strip and glue to body. Glue down any edges that are sticking out. 16. Bend arms and legs to position mummy in your setting. ■ Fay Zerbolio is a board member of the Miniature Museum of Greater St. Louis. She lives in St. Louis, Missouri. MINIATURE COLLECTOR MAGAZINE
