Altman has been appointed section head, process metallurgy, of the Central Research Department of Asarco Incorporated. Dr. Altman joined the company in 1979 as senior research engineer.

Richard R. DeWitt has been named executive vice president of The International Nickel Company, Inc. He was formerly vice president of marketing for the company.

Charles J. Baroch has received the 1981 Award of Merit from the American Society for Testing and Materials. He was cited for his advancement of research, development, demonstration, and provision of nuclear energy as a viable source of energy supply. Dr. Barach is general manager of Materials Engineering and Capital Projects, Nuclear Materials and Manufacturing Division, Babcock and Wilcox Company, Lynchburg, Virginia.

Theodore L. Diamond has been elected to the board of trustees of Lehigh University. A member of the class of 1937, Mr. Diamond is president of T.L. Diamond & Co.

Allen S. Russell, vice president and chief scientist, Alcoa, has received the Karl J. Bayer Medal, honoring his lifetime of achievement in aluminum science and technology. During his 40 years with Alcoa, his research played a significant role in many of the advances in aluminum technology, including the development of the Alcoa Smelting Process. Dr. Russell was honored at the Seventh International Light Metals Congress, held June 1981 in Vienna. He is the fourth recipient of the award.
