Jack has lots of female friends, but he hasn’t got a girlfriend. Frank has enough money to buy a big house with a garden. I like Spain a lot and would like to live there one day. I live in a small town in the west of England. My parents really like my girlfriend – she’s lovely. My mother was only 18 when she gave birth to me. My parents are both doctors, but I became an actor. They had a great day out and really enjoyed themselves. A good salesman can sell anything. School isn’t the only place where children learn new things. I don’t have a brother but I have one sister. Our English teacher explains everything so clearly. Olivia is an English student at university. The west of England is warmer than the north or east. He goes to university next year.

You don’t learn anything from a bad teacher. The city is very big so I travel by bus instead of walking. Anna’s blog is full of news and photos about her stay in London. We don’t have a garage so we keep our car outside. Her school is in the centre of London, near all the shops. I haven’t got much money, but I know where the cheap shops are. There are lots of Italian coffee bars in London that sell great coffee. In winter, the weather in Madrid is often sunny but cold. Some people speak so fast it’s difficult to understand them. Travelling by Underground is easy because the maps are clear. We travelled along the Nile while we were staying in Egypt. I’ve never been outside of Europe, and would love to visit Asia or America. We cycle or walk everywhere because public transport is so expensive. The man said he was a famous actor, but I didn’t recognize him. I can’t understand you when you speak so fast. You don’t need any money because the museum is free. I really like the other students – they are very friendly. The gallery has some beautiful paintings. Charlotte is a name for a girl not a boy. London is a great city – there are lots of shops! The teacher gives us lots of homework. The coffee is so horrible I can’t drink it. The weather is very hot and sunny. Hungary is a country in Europe near Slovakia. Anna’s a lovely woman but her husband isn’t very friendly. I like England – it is an interesting country. My class is very international, with students from across the world. The highest peak in Japan is Mount Fuji. My father doesn’t speak any other language except English. We love Amy because she’s so nice and kind. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. The border between Mexico and the United States is heavily guarded. At the transport museum, there are examples of vehicles dating back to the 1800s. We live near the airport, but we’ve got used to the sound of planes. London is a city with lots of parks for people to walk or cycle in. People are surprised when I tell them what I do. I’ve visited so many great places here. People in Rome are different from other Italians. Shopping is no fun if you haven’t got any money to spend. I like to buy things online rather than go into shops. The bus is very slow, so don’t take it if you’re in a hurry. My school is very small – there are only 30 students. Mr and Mrs Tims have a son, Paul, and a daughter, Eva. Spain is a lovely country, but Madrid gets very hot in summer.

Can we please go to the zoo to see all the animals? I come from Portugal, not Spain. Hungary is a country that has no coast. Some places that are now desert used to be green and fertile. I like my job but I don’t earn enough to live a life of luxury. An engineer designs and builds machines, roads and other structures. I’m so busy in my new job – I hardly have any free time. He goes to the gym every day in order to stay fit. She doesn’t mind working long hours because she loves her job. Many people do jobs they don’t like in order to earn money. The New Zealand accent is similar to the Australian one. On an oil rig, you’re far from land and all your family and friends. If you like being outdoors, an office job isn’t for you.

She’s an actress who can play a wide range of parts. A ballet dancer needs to be both graceful and athletic. A banker works with money and makes a lot of money. The famous fictional detective, Hercule Poirot, was from Belgium. The disc jockey played music that nobody wanted to dance to. It’s difficult to work out exactly what the problem is. The film was so exciting I didn’t want it to end. The man said he was a famous actor, but I didn’t recognize him. If you’re ever visiting France, you must come and see us in Lyon. You won’t learn anything if you sit in class texting your friends. Because there was no canteen, we often had lunch at our desks. She was so beautiful that people always asked her if she was a model. Spanish and Portuguese look alike, but sound very different. I’m going into town to buy a present for my sister. After his bad experience, Philip decided never to travel by train again. The poor families don’t have much money, but they are still happy. I sometimes eat chocolate, but I don’t have it every day. What do you study at university? I’ve put the kettle on because Lee always has a cup of tea in the morning. The apartment I live in is on the top floor of this block. My favourite band is playing at the music festival. Ryan never goes to bed before midnight. Reading books is a great way to learn vocabulary. That bookstore sells old comics as well as books. I invite my friends round every so often and cook a meal for them. I’d hate to sit at home after work every evening just watching TV. After I finish work, I often meet friends for a coffee. I was really happy to find out that I’d won first prize. My main home is in the country, but I’ve got a little flat in London as well. I speak to my mum very often – almost every day, in fact. The restaurant was full of happy diners. More people go shopping on a Saturday than any other day. Singers have to do special exercises so as not to harm their throats. Sunday used to be a day of rest, but now it’s the same as any other day. Shops often stay open late on a Thursday and Friday. Monday is a bank holiday, so I’ll see you at work on Tuesday. Did you fill in the application form for that job? Badminton is a bit like tennis but you use a shuttlecock instead of a ball. When you’re playing cards it’s important to hide your cards. Many people like to eat snacks while watching a film at the cinema. If you like cycling, you should buy the best bike you can afford. When we were younger we used to go dancing in nightclubs. You need to buy some good clubs to play golf properly. We can play indoor tennis if it starts to rain. I like to listen to my MP3 player before I fall asleep. My mobile phone is an old one that doesn’t take photos. I listen to classical music when I’m in a quiet mood. There’ll be outdoor activities as long as the weather stays fine. Using a personal trainer to help you get fit is expensive. Letters arrive faster if the post code is included in the address. I only go running along quiet roads. Sailing requires knowledge of tides and currents, as well as navigation. Skiing is easier if you manage to bend your knees properly. Squash is a game that requires very fast reactions. Swimming is good exercise, and it doesn’t harm your joints and muscles. Jeff adores tennis so I’ve bought him tickets for Wimbledon. When I come home, I take off my office shoes and go around barefoot. If you’ve had a stressful day, it’s nice to relax in a warm bath. I buy all my clothes from small, local boutiques. My favourite meat is chicken, roasted in the oven. Dan hates cities, and loves any chance to get out into the countryside. You can’t enjoy watching a sport if you don’t know the rules. We always have fresh flowers, such as roses, at home. My grandparents travelled a lot but never learnt any foreign languages. A garden centre sells everything you need for the garden. Our lawnmower isn’t sharp enough to cut that long grass. Indian dishes such as curry are very popular in the UK. Examples of Japanese words are sushi and haiku. A massage really helps relax your aching muscles. Poker is a card game that requires a lot of skill. Cathy sent us a postcard of the resort where they’re staying. I watched a great programme on TV last night. In the past, pubs only served drink, but now most of them sell food, too. He missed out the starter and main course and just had a pudding.

I live on the top floor, so nobody lives above me. I like to curl up in an armchair with a good book. Every room in the hotel has a private bathroom. Even the single bedroom had two double beds. I often have my lunch sitting on a bench in the park. I looked along the bookshelves but didn’t find the book I wanted. We waited at the bus stop for an hour and then two buses arrived. It’s very noisy walking around without the carpet down. Could you pick up my tablets from the chemist’s?

She needs a huge wardrobe to put all her clothes in. The cooker uses a combination of gas and electricity. We often eat in the kitchen rather than the dining room. You shouldn’t put hot food in a fridge to cool it down. The tea and coffee are in that cupboard. The kitchen only had space for a cooker and a sink. The main TV is in the living room, but we’ve also got one in the kitchen. The bathroom mirror gets steamed up very easily. It’s logical to put the washing machine next to the dryer. The cat likes to sit on the TV and look down at us. We’ve got a great view of the park directly opposite us. Let’s go outside and walk round the garden. I put the cake in the oven an hour ago but it isn’t cooked. The pavement is being repaired so you have to walk in the road. I thought I heard the phone ringing. The walls look very bare without any pictures. I can’t send the parcel until the post office opens. It’s better to buy a house or flat than rent one.

We stood on the balcony and took in the view over the garden. For Jo’s fifth birthday, I made a cake in the shape of a ‘5’. At the bowling alley, I found the ball heavy and hard to throw. St Paul’s Cathedral in London is where Prince Charles got married in 1981. Each new president can choose new furniture for the White House. I couldn’t sleep because the bed wasn’t very comfortable. We should get some curtains to prevent people looking in. My new desk is big enough to fit a computer and a printer on. Some people have dinner early, but we eat quite late. If you’re hungry, why don’t you eat something? The elevator took us to the top floor in a few seconds. We’ll keep the fireplace but we aren’t going to light a fire in it. In many houses, people keep a bowl of fruit on the table. Apart from a chair and table, we don’t have any furniture. A gardener comes once a week to look after the communal gardens. The statue next to the desk was a gift from my parents. The White House is both a government building and a private home. I’m planning to grow vegetables in the garden. The State Dining Room is big enough for 140 guests. I took advantage of the jogging track to take an early morning run. The house had a library that contained hundreds of books. Many famous stars have movie theaters in their houses. The president of the United States lives in the White House. Many old houses are open to the public. Bright colours in a room don’t make me want to relax. I’m really tired because I didn’t sleep very well last night. The children splashed around in the swimming pool.

I learnt everything there is to know about business from my grandad. Famous people must get tired of being recognized everywhere they go. A lot of wealthy people give money to several charities. We plan to interview ten people for the job. My plane will leave at 10 p.m., but I’d like to be at the airport by 8. We can’t afford to lose a fifth match in a row. Two years after starting the company, he hopes to make his first £1 million. A millionaire is no longer a rarity now that billionaires are becoming more common. I hope those CDs I ordered will arrive soon. Aged 20, Ben won the ‘Young Entrepreneur of the Year’ award. Sam was always drawing as a child and is still very artistic. I usually have toast and cereal for breakfast. It would be great to take a boat out and catch some fish. Now that she’s wealthy, she wears clothes made by the best designers. My grandad was born in 1932, and died in 2009. The first thing I do when I switch on my computer is check my emails. The girls modelling the clothes at the fashion show were very thin. I used to be in a local football team, but I got injured and couldn’t play. I’m still thinking about what you said last night. If I don’t hurry, I’ll be late for work. The cricket match was postponed because of rain. The match will be over in a few minutes, so we may as well go. I didn’t buy her a present but I did make a cake. If you want to run a company, you’ll learn more by starting at the bottom. I stay in touch with some ex-colleagues, but there are others that I don’t see at all. I’m hungry because I burnt the toast at breakfast and couldn’t eat it. After a hard day at work, many people watch TV to relax.

A successful businessman gave me some tips on how to make money. I’m so busy it seems that there isn’t enough time in the day. I was so excited about going on holiday that I couldn’t sleep. ‘I can’t believe my team lost again!’ he exclaimed. If you export the goods you make to other countries, you can make more money. The fish was straight out of the sea and was delicious. Catching fish is seen as a man’s job, but I once met a female fisherman! The hall was full of people all wanting to hear about my moneymaking scheme. I’ll ask that gentleman over there where to catch the ferry. Don’t be put off if people laugh at your business idea. Bleriot flew his aircraft at an altitude of only 250 feet. The astronaut Neil Armstrong was the first man to walk on the moon. The era of modern aviation began with Bleriot’s air journey across the English Channel. The astronauts’ job is to collect rocks to send back to Earth. Without modern navigational aids, a compass would be essential to a pilot. The aeroplane crash was serious, but no one was injured. The first air crossing of the English Channel took place in 1909. The most dangerous part of the flight was when the pilot flew into fog. The enormous rocket took three days to reach the moon. The astronauts set up scientific equipment on the moon.

If he gets the job he will leap into the air. The rocket will lift off from Earth early in the morning. The lunar module containing the astronauts landed safely on the moon. A man with a moustache and dark glasses sat down next to me. Neil Armstrong described stepping onto the moon as a ‘giant leap for mankind’. Modern technology has enabled us to do so many things. The astronauts spent over two hours walking on the moon. The people living in the war zone just wanted peace. Louis Bleriot was a pioneer of aviation. Let’s go to the airport and watch the planes take off and land. I wonder how the astronauts will prepare for their journey? The astronauts put up a flag on the surface of the moon. The meal was so good we thanked the chef personally. London’s Beef Steak Club is where the word ‘sandwich’ was coined. He bought her a cookbook with some great recipes in it.

It’s become fashionable to carry bottles of water around. People who gamble risk losing their money on bets. Mustard has a strong flavour that goes well with ham. Nuts such as almonds and pecans are used in many meals. Sandwiches are popular because they’re cheap and easy. This machine can record DVDs as well as playing them. Would you like a slice of cake?

Fish fingers are a healthy type of fast food for children. The cake had several layers of sponge and cream. There were free olives to pick at while we read the menu. The market sells cheaper and fresher food than supermarkets. The Metro is what many cities call the Underground. There’s that nightclub where all the celebrities go. The air quality in cities is poor because of the traffic. We live in an area that has lots of parks. India’s biggest banks have their headquarters in Mumbai. Spring is the best time to see Japan’s cherry blossom trees. India’s capital city is New Delhi, not Mumbai. At sunset, the colours of the buildings change. Japan is famous for its cherry blossom trees. The climate in Tokyo is hot and humid in the summer. Tokyo is on the coast, and used to be a fishing village. The street was full of elegant shops selling high-class goods. Edo was renamed Tokyo when the Emperor moved there. India became independent of the British Empire in 1947. Teaching in a school in Africa was a great experience. The extreme weather we’re having has killed a lot of crops. Fishing in a river or canal is a relaxing way to spend an afternoon. Many foreigners in the UK can’t understand a Scottish accent. In the sunlight, her blond hair looked like gold. In the market, people set out their goods and produce on stalls. It is a modern city where people wear the latest fashions. I’d rather visit a small city like San Francisco than a megacity like New York. Granada in Spain is located between the mountains and the sea. A multicultural society includes people of all races and religions. Japan is a mysterious place that can be difficult to understand. The colour of the buildings changes from gold to orange and pink at sunset. I’m originally from Italy, which explains my Italian accent. A pink sunset tells us that the following day’s weather will be fine. The population of Mexico City is over 24 million. 60% of people in Mumbai live in poverty, in slums with no running water. Bollywood film companies produce more films than Hollywood. Men often went to a public bath to discuss business while relaxing. The quality of life for people living in slums is terrible. If the railway system were better, more people would travel by train. Today’s going to be rainy so let’s stay in. With little or no sanitation, people catch diseases easily. If you want good weather, don’t visit in the rainy season. All along the road there were shrines to various saints. The skyline showed a modern city of huge skyscrapers. The slums are so different from the clean and new blocks of flats. As a child, I wasn’t allowed to eat snacks between meals.

The sun was no longer in our eyes as we turned south. For me, spring is the best season, when plants start to grow again. The town hall is located on the main square. The thick stone walls kept the castle warm in winter. The subway system in Mexico City is very cheap. In farming areas, people often get up before sunrise. We looked at the sunset until we couldn’t see the sun any more. We couldn’t see where to go as we were surrounded by people.

Judging by the man’s backpack, he was on a hiking holiday. I offered to carry the old man’s suitcase, but he said he was fine. They didn’t have any money for hotels, so they slept in fields. At the camp, we sang folk songs around the fire.

Camping gives you the freedom to go where you like. They sang in perfect harmony and people stopped to listen. The man was wearing a strange hat that covered his eyes. They offered us a meal and we thanked them for their hospitality. Walking and singing are simple human activities. He took off his jacket and hung it over the back of the chair. The man started singing, and passers-by stopped to listen. A watch is a perfect present for him, as he’s always late. Ed, Ginger, and Will made podcasts to tell stories of their walks. She hadn’t shown any sign of being unhappy. I’d just like something simple like an omelette or a sandwich. Amy tried to smile at the joke but didn’t seem to find it as funny as I did. Waiting for my exam results was more stressful than doing the exams. Pack a suitcase – we’re going to Paris. We had a simple supper of soup and bread, then went to bed. Ed, Will, and Ginger walked from Petersfield to Wales. Without his walking stick, the old man moved uncertainly. I like websites that have links you can click on.

I was disappointed not to see any lions on the safari. The weather stayed fine for the festival and we heard some great bands. Festival goers didn’t mind the rain, and even danced in the mud! There was no table, so we sat with our plates on our knees. The Glastonbury festival is famous for its rain, so there’s always mud. I prefer open-air concerts because I like being outside.

We watched bands as well as individual performers. We joined the end of the queue and prepared for a long wait. The number of festivals is expected to rise, due to public interest. Everyone said how good the film was, but I thought it was rubbish. All the waiters wore T-shirts with the restaurant’s slogan on them. When the band appeared on stage the crowd were very happy. I don’t expect sunshine every day, but I hope it doesn’t rain all week. They brought a tent to sleep in overnight. The van carrying all our belongings broke down.

Can you check the departures board to see if the gate for the flight is there? Check-in is quicker if you only have hand luggage. The airline lost our luggage, so we had to buy new clothes. I have very happy memories of building sandcastles on the beach. If you’ve never seen a band before you might find it a bit noisy. I have only one piece of hand luggage.
