T

his is really an exciting time at Harvest! God is at work here, many new people are here, and over a thousand of us are involved in 40 Days in the Word.

“The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” Matthew 9:36-38

One of the best things we have done as a church is to ask everyone at Harvest to put together a plan to grow spiritually. Growing spiritually is the most important thing you can do in life. The Bible says that we will all give an account to God for our lives and the main thing is to live His plan for your life. That plan for each of us involves growth in three areas:

1 2 3

Relationship with God. John 17:3 Becoming godly people. Romans 8:29; II Corinthians 3:18

Bearing fruit - making a difference for Christ in other people and in the world. John 17:8 Together, we call these “spiritual growth,” and that is all the things from this life that will last. It is finding God’s purposes for us here on earth.

O

n Sunday, we will encourage everyone to commit to God a personal plan for growth for this year. We recommend that you choose from five practices that have proven effective for Christian growth over the centuries:

334-702-6555

1 2

Regular worship with God’s people - His church.

Developing open and committed relationships with other Christians. We intentionally provide opportunity for this through our small groups.

3

Serving in ministry. We have a long list of ministries and service opportunities you can choose from within Harvest and in our community.

4 5

Financial giving. If you commit your money to God, in most cases, He has you. Personal growth habits. We will tell you more specifically about these positive growth habits on Sunday, but the main one is to take time every day to read your Bible and pray. These are suggestions. The actual plan is up to you. The main thing is to have a plan. Growth rarely happens randomly; it happens when we are intentional.

G

od has done wonderful things, but He is not finished with any of us. In the coming year we have the opportunity to KNOW God better than we have ever known Him before. We can become more like Jesus than ever before. Our lives can make more of a difference in the world than ever before. God has called you to know Him, to walk with Him, and to represent Him in this life. PLAN to succeed in the most important thing in life this year.

Featured Member: Chris Adkins My family and I first came to Harvest in January of 2006. I had been part of a worship team for a few years at this point and was really just burned out. The “pizzazz” of worship was gone. Zach Neese, the worship leader at that time, shared something really inspiring that made me realize that I had been entertaining people over the years, and I did not know anything about how to worship, much less lead others in worship. John 4:24 says, “God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” (NIV) I was not worshiping in the Spirit or the truth because it was all about me and my abilities. I am grateful for new beginnings and thankful for Cheryl and the team of worshipers with whom I now serve. My hope is that my role on the worship team will help others to see the deception of entertainment and discover that intimate place of worship with Christ.

Night of Worship - Mark your

calendar for our next Night of Worship on Friday, February 28 at 7pm in the Worship Center. This event is free and open to the public. Childcare will be provided for nursery and preschool-age children. Come with “HEARTS OPEN WIDE” and let us draw near to God. Hebrews 10:19-22

New Songs - Check out these

new songs that the worship team will be sharing in the weeks to come: “Place of Freedom” by Church of the Highlands, “Whom Shall I Fear” by Chris Tomlin, “The Anthem” by Planetshakers, “Lay Me Down” by Chris Tomlin, and “Here For You” by Matt Redman.

The Adult Choir will resume meeting Sunday, February 9 April 6 at 5:15pm in room 205 (upstairs Education Building). New voices are welcome! Email Cheryl at worship@ harvestdothan.com for more information.

Children’s Ministry

40 Days in the Word for Children & Preteens XtremeKidz (K-4th grade) - As you know, our

church-wide 40 Days in the Word study encourages us to apply the truths that we are learning. Each group is encouraged to take part in an outreach project which is called “The Micah 6:8 Assignment.” In XtremeKidz, we are going to take an offering each week during this study. All of the money collected will be given to our ministry partners at Love In Action to purchase puzzle Bibles for children in Pakistan. We’d like for each child, together with his/ her parents, to think of a special job that they can do to earn this offering money. This should not be a regular family job like making the bed— it should be something extra. Please pray with your child for the children who will receive these Bibles.

SITE56 (5th/6th grade) - The preteens are really

digging in to learn more about the Bible on Wednesday evenings at 6:30pm. “The Book” is the 40 Days in the Word study for preteens. This dynamic study will help preteens discover the eternal value of the Bible, how to study it, and how to apply its truths to their lives. Join us for pizza during our snack time on Wednesday, February 5!

Konstruction Zone is a creative worship setting for children in Kindergarten through fourth grade. Kids see Bible lessons come to life through dynamic dramas, enjoy exciting worship music, and build relationships in age-level small groups. Konstruction Zone meets Sunday mornings at 8:45 and 10:45am in Room B-210. This month in KZ: Memory Verse: “Faith is being sure of what we hope for. It is being certain of what we do not see.” Hebrews 11:1, NIrV Life App: Faith—believing in what you can’t see because of what you can see. Harvest Kids Facebook Page - You’re invited to visit, “like,” and “share” our new Harvest Kids Facebook page! It’s another great way to stay connected and share our Kids events with your friends.

To get involved, contact Debi, 702-6555 x236 / kids@ harvestdothan.com.

Greetings to Parents and Volunteers!

Preschool/Nursery

Dana Britto

I hope you have heard by now how excited the children and teachers are about our new curriculum Critterland. It’s a Bible-based teaching that takes stories of Jesus and uses little “critters” to add to the application for children. Each week we have a “Big Idea” that helps the children remember that God wants the best for us. We are excited that Noah’s Park is growing with new volunteers! They are: John and Brianne Kent, Jacob and Brittany Wimberly, Hannah Cook, and Donna Woodham. God is so good and is blessing us with volunteers who are serving His children. We appreciate each of you serving in Noah’s Park! To get involved, contact Dana, 702-6555, x241/[email protected]. Page 5
