International Day 9th July Already many parents are heavily involved with the classroom decoration for International Day and thank you for helping out. We welcome volunteers to set up a food stall for the servery area. We are requesting that this be done on a donation/cover costs only basis as we do not want the students handling too much money on the day. We are also looking for demonstrations of international cultures, maybe some samba or salsa! Also, anyone who would like to run a games stall based on international games would be most welcome. We will be holding a ‘fashion show’ of national costumes on the day. If you would like to be involved in this way then please contact your son/daughter’s class teacher or Mr. Robinson ([email protected]).

Ice Hockey Jasraj 4B participated in the Malaysian Ice Hockey League Division 3 held at Sunway Pyramid on Saturday 8th June. His team, Metrostars managed to get into the final and emerged Runners-Up. For his outstanding performance, he was awarded Most Promising Player of the league. We look forward to hear more good news from him.

We would like to thank parents for travelling quite a distance to support us at Nexus and Desa Parkcity and for their patience while waiting for us to return. Sekolah Sri Tenby (SST) Fun with English! Do you wear suspenders? The Wordy Tales of Eh Poh Nim are two of many books written by Lydia Teh. Her books have been written in a very creative way and can be used as a tool in English Language learning, especially from secondary onwards. On Tuesday 11th June, all Form 1 students attended an interesting talk by Lydia Teh from 13:10hrs - 14:10hrs in the Drama Room. A variety of interesting activities were conducted. Students showed interest and had fun participating. Lydia along with her book illustrator, Diana presented a sketch on one of the stories from her book. Students enjoyed watching. Later on, a short quiz was conducted based on the sketch presented. Students raced in answering the questions. The next activity was on the testing of students’ vocabulary. Individually, students came up with as many words as possible from ‘EH POH NIM’. Students were given 1 minute for this challenge. Li Yan (F1S) found 16 words and was awarded with a copy of ‘Eh Poh Nim’ book. Finally, six students volunteered for the final activity. Students constructed a sentence each so that a story could be formed. Lydia started a sentence and it was continued by the students. Lydia’s books were on sale at The Arena of Knowledge. The first 5 buyers received a complimentary sketch of themselves.

Please confirm your attendance with Ms. Darshini ([email protected]) before Friday 21.6.13. See you there! Tissue Boxes Needed 1N need lots of empty tissue boxes in preparation for International Day. Please pass empty tissue boxes to the Principal’s Office by the end of June.

Reminder: Classes in September for Primary It is school policy to split primary classes each academic year. The reason for this is to enable students to rehearse and practice social skills within a new setting each year and allow them to get to know more students within their year group. This is a long and very careful process that the teachers will begin. When creating the new classes, the students will be able to choose at least one friend to be in the new class with. In addition, teachers will take various factors into consideration to ensure that each class has a balance of ability, gender, nationality, houses, behavioural and learning needs. We will do our best to provide students with exposure to a range of expatriate and local teachers.

Year 4 Exit Point – Young and Old On Thursday Year 4 were more than happy to come into school. Why? Well, we spent the morning playing with ‘old fashioned’ toys – and all in the name of education! Finding out about what people used to play with in past times, how these games were played and what they helped to develop (thinking strategies/working out angles/balancing skills). It all made for a great morning. Parents came into school and we were shown how to play games that they and grandparents used to play. Everyone took turns to try out these games – with not an iPad in sight! One of the highlights was definitely the kite flying that took place on the field! The morning led the children to think about what is available to them now – things that don’t cost much (if anything), that can help us develop parts of our brain and body and that are just good fun! And many of us realised that we don’t want to let these games disappear. Thanks again to the parents who gave up their time to help us – a great time was had by all!

From the Art Department

Tenby’s first major Art Exhibition of IGCSE work was very well attended by parents, students and staff alike. Many thanks to the Parents’ Association for providing food, refreshments and giving up their time. Miss Anna and the Music students provided a beautiful backdrop of live music throughout the evening. The prefects made up a reception committee and the Year 11 Art students produced a body of high quality, varied, personal art and design works. Many thanks also to Miss Lisa Chan for mounting the displays and doing much more to support the students behind the scenes. It was a real team effort.
