P400

protein is a membrane-associated glycoprotein that is phosphorylated by protein kinase A (1, 2). P400 cDNA clones were isolated from a mouse cerebellum cDNA library constructed in lambda gtll (3). The library was immunoscreened with three independent monoclonal antibodies against P400 (1,2). The sequence of 9,871 bp contains a single large open reading frame beginning with ATG at nucleotide 329 and ending with TAG at nucleotide 8,576, and encodes a 2,749 amino-acid protein (3). Most of the sequence was determined from at least two independent clones (3). Sequence variants which might be due either to cloning artefacts or to something else are as follows: T to C, T to C and C to T at nucleotide position 763, 826 and 1024, respectively. In all cases no amino-acid change occurs. According to our preliminary data, the transcription initiation site is 23 nucleotides further upstream than the 5' end shown

here.
