Numbered Heads Together Teammates work together to ensure all members understand; one is selected to share response.

Procedures: 1.

Students work in groups of four. Each student is assigned a number.

2.

Teacher poses a question and provides think time. (example: “Everyone, think about why water is important to farmers and to crops. [pause] Now make sure everyone on your team knows why water is so important to farmers and to crops.”

3.

Students indicate when everyone knows the answer or has something to share.

4.

Teacher calls a number. The student with that number from each team answers in turn. ELLs will benefit from: 1. White board slates 2. Choral response 3. Manipulatives 4. Agree/disagree response followed by teammate's elaboration
