Oksana Koshulko LABOR MARKET AND WOMEN’S RIGHTS FOR FEMALE IMMIGRANTS IN TURKEY Abstract. The abstract presents the results of research about the rights of women from countries of the Former Soviet Union in Turkey based on the scientific project “The migration of women to Turkey from the Former Soviet Union countries: differences, similarities, and outcomes” conducted during the 2014-2015 academic year. Research methodology consisted of field work, structured interviews and the snowball sampling method. Thousands of women were invited to participate in the project and more than four hundred women took part in the research. The results of this research show that the majority of the women (63% of all interviewed women) came to Turkey to marry and some of them have converted to Islam. In fact, the main reason these immigrant women convert to Islam is the desire to marry Turkish men. As Islam is the main religion in Turkey, female migrants who would like to marry Turkish men often convert to Islam. The results of the research show that 8 to 22% of them from countries of the Former Soviet Union have converted to Islam. Concerning the rights of the women, they face many restrictions and barriers. The majority of them cannot work in the host country because they are wives of Turkish men. However according to the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), adopted in 1979 by the UN General Assembly, they do have the right to work. References

Maria Mățel-Boatcă TURKISH LANGUAGE THROUGHOUT EUROPE. THE CASE OF ROMANCE LANGUAGES Abstract. Beginning from the Medieval Age, Turkish words gradually entered the vocabulary used in everyday communication throughout Europe. The range and accuracy of languages like French or Romanian cannot be fully explained without analysing the novelty lexical element introduced as cultural and historical changes occurred. Thus, military terms such as “bachi-bouzouk” in French or “bașbuzuc” in Romania acquire a different meaning as they become loan words. At the same time, Turkish culinary terms are assimilated in European languages as the designated dishes are progressively included in the respective cuisines and ways of life. Such is equally the case of words like “café” and “cafea” or “yaourt” and “iaurt”. Our approach is structured as an attempt at pursuing the variety of Turkish loan words in Romance languages, with examples from French and Romanian.
