Christopher Paolini proved himself to be a master storyteller when he wrote Eragon. Now it’s time to try your own hand at an inspired creation! Write a poem (100 words or less) based on the adventures in Eragon and you could win a piece of Christopher Paolini’s original art! Your poem can be written in any style you like, including—but not limited to—a ballad (a narrative poem that can also be sung), a limerick (a five-line rhyming poem), or an acrostic poem (a series of verses in which the first letters of each line combine together to form a word).

ELIGIBILITY Contest is open to legal residents of the United States and legal residents of Canada, excluding the Province of Quebec, who are 12 years of age or older as of December 31, 2004. If for any reason the prizes are not available or cannot be fulfilled, Random House Inc. reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value, including, but not limited to, cash equivalent. Taxes, if any, are the winner’s sole responsibility. Prizes are not transferable and cannot be assigned. No prize or cash substitutes allowed, except at the discretion of the sponsor as set forth above. WINNERS The winners will be chosen on or around January 31, 2005, from all eligible entries received by the Random House Marketing Department within the entry deadline. Entries will be judged by Christopher Paolini and the Random House Marketing Department staff, whose decisions are final, and the prize will be awarded on the basis of originality, style, and creativity. The prizes will be awarded in the name of the winners’ parent or legal guardian if winners are under 18. Winners or winners’ parent or legal guardian will be notified by mail and winners or winners’ parent/legal guardian will be required to sign and return affidavit(s) of eligibility and release of liability within 14 days of notification. A noncompliance within that time period or the return of any notification as undeliverable will result in disqualification and the selection of an alternate winner. In the event of any other noncompliance with rules and conditions, prize may be awarded to an alternate winner. Winners will be notified by mail on or about February 15, 2005. Taxes, if any, are the winner’s sole responsibility. Random House reserves the right to substitute prizes of equal or greater value if prizes, as stated above, become unavailable.
