Afternoon  departure  from  Richmond  International  Airport  for  those  purchasing  the  Land  &   Air  Package        

Morning  arrival  into  Charles  de  Gaulle  Airport,  Paris  with  airport  transfer  *   Panoramic  tour  of  Paris*  prior  to  check-­‐in  at  Hotel  Claude  Bernard  (8  nights)   *For  those  purchasing  the  Land  &  Air  Package   Daily  Breakfast  at  Hotel  Claude  Bernard  (suggested  allowance  of  $125/day  to  cover   expenses  not  covered  in  trip  fee  such  as  lunches,  dinners,  tour  venue  entry  fees  (such  as   museums)  and  excursion  fares  (such  as  subway  and  cab  fares).    Leaders  will  provide   suggestions  for  economical  dining  options,  such  as  open  air  markets  and  gourmet  groceries.  

  Visit  sites  that  represent  the  haunts  of  notables  for  whom  Paris  was  a  special  place  to   include,  but  not  limited  to,  Gertrude  Stein,  Alice  B.  Toklas,  Sylvia  Beach  and   Ernest  Hemingway,  whose  works  were  studied  in  the  Osher  Summer  2013  course  “Paris   through  a  Literary  Lens,”  as  well  as  others  such  as  Thomas  Jefferson,  F.  Scott  Fitzgerald,   Josephine  Baker  and  James  Baldwin.    Trip  leaders  are  Bitsy  Gilfoyle,  instructor  of  English  at   J.Sargent  Reynolds  Community  College  and  Osher  Course  Leader,  and  Jane  Dowrick,  director   of  the  Osher  Lifelong  Learning  Institute.     About  half  of  each  day  will  include  a  guided  activity  and  the  remainder  of  the  day  will  be  free   time  for  students  to  tour  on  their  own.    Student  participation  in  programmed  activities  is   invited  but  not  required.    Suggested  reading  in  advance  of  the  trip  includes  works  by  those   listed  above,  as  well  as  David  McCullough’s  “The  Greater  Journey:    Americans  in  Paris.”       Trip  will  involve  considerable  walking  on  city  streets,  and  use  of  public  transportation  on   subways  and  buses.     Morning  departure  from  Paris  with  airport  transfer*  and  evening  arrival  in  Richmond
