Oram writes to Rajnath, wants Odisha govt to probe BHUBANESWAR, JUNE 16 /--/ Two days after BJD workers allegedly hurled eggs at his vehicle, Union tribal affairs minister Jual Oram today requested Union home minister Rajnath Singh to direct the state government to order a probe into the incident. A BJP delegation led by party's state president Basant Panda also met state Governor SC Jamir here and urged him to issue strictures to the state government for the frequent egg attacks on visiting union ministers. A shutdown was also observed in Sundargarh to protest against the incident. In a letter to the home minister, Oram said eggs were hurled at his vehicle on June 14 during his visit to Kendrapara district and sought Centre's intervention in the matter. "I request your kind intervention in the matter, thereby issuing instructions to the state government to inquire into the matter and advise them to make adequate security arrangements for Union ministers visiting the state so as to

Egg hurling avoid such deplorable incidents," Oram said. Alleging that those who hurled eggs at his vehicle were local BJD goons, the tribal affairs minister said it is the responsibility of the state government to provide security to visiting Union ministers, but the state police have failed miserably in performing their duties. "The increasing number of such incidents exposes lack of seriousness on part of the administration resulting in sloppy and inadequate security arrangements for visiting ministers, including those who have been targeted by Naxalite elements in the past," Oram said. On June 10, Youth Congress activists had allegedly hurled eggs at Union agriculture minister Radha Mohan Singh's vehicle and w aved black flags near the state guest house. In a memorandum submitted to the Governor, the BJP alle ged a gradual decline of law and order in Odisha, which culminated in dastardly attacks

on central ministers by organised hooligans supported by the ruling BJD and Congress. "Attack on a Central minister who is on an official visit is not only condemnable, but also an indication of serious lapse on the part of Odisha government," the memorandum said. "As per protocol his (Oram's) security is the responsibility of the state government. Instead of providing security, it aided and abetted the attack and did nothing to prevent it. No one has been arrested so far in the matter," it said. Normal life was disrupted in Sundargarh after the sevenhour shutdown called by BJP today protesting the incident of eggs being hurled at Oram's vehicle in Kendrapara. Shops and business establishments remained closed, while vehicular movement was affected during the bandh. BJP activists blocked roads at various places in the district demanding immediate arrest of those involved in the incident under the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. (PTI)

Nagaland govt contemplating to rewrite Municipal Act: CM KOHIMA, JUNE 16 /--/ Nagaland government is contemplating to rewrite the Nagaland Municipal Act 2001 so that the election to the urban local bodies (ULBs) in the state can be conducted smoothly. "Not just amendment but the government is contemplating to rewrite the entire Act," chief minister Shurhozelie Liezietsu said on Thursday. There was no women reservation when the Nagaland Municipal Act was passed by the state assembly in 2001 and the first election was held in 2004. But with the amendment of the Constitution, the state also amended the Act in 2006 and included 33 per cent reservation for women, he said. "Since then we could not hold elections to ULBs (earlier this year) because of various complaints from the apex tribal bodies and other organisations

... Till date we are yet to decide how best we can sail on smoothly," he said. The state had witnessed unrest and protests by tribal outfits early this year to protest against urban local body (ULB) election, which was scheduled to be held on February 1 because of 33 per cent reservation of seats for women in its 32 municipal and town councils. Liezietsu said that people expect many developmental activities from the government but unless there is peace in the society, development cannot be expected. The lack of development in Nagaland is due to the ongoing Naga political struggle, he said adding "Nagaland for many did not have peace and even today we are expecting a solution." He hoped that with the semblance of peace, the state will be able to march forward to the path of development. (PTI)

Roboarm SILIGURI, JUNE 16/--/Students of Surendra Institute of Engineering and Management have successfully designed an Intelligent Gesture Controlled Wireless Robotic Arm – (MYROB) that can heal the pain of physically challenged people, as MYROB can be easily controlled by an Android Mobile phone. MYROB can sense the human need, can pick and drop any objects in our home. The physically challenged people now no need to worry for getting homely assistance from a machine with senses. The MYROB is based on the concept of controlling a specific robotic arm wirelessly using a portable controller. This ROBOARM is controlled by Human Arm Gesture. The ROBOARM resembles the movement of the controlling human arm efficiently. The major idea behind this project is to introduce the concept of Controller Portability. This unique project is better than the conventional ROBOARM, where the total controlling circuit is attached to human arm which looks clumsy. Rupak Chowdhury, Utpal Ghosh, Archana Chettri and Bandana Sarkar, final year students of dept. of ECE, SIEM has designed the PORTABLE CONTROLLER more secure, easy to use and compact in size, under the guidance of Prof. Ritam Dutta, faculty of SIEM College at Siliguri. The head of the department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, Prof Dutta also told that these students have been designing MYROB since last one year. He also added that it is a proud moment for all of us. ATMEGA 328P microcontroller has been used as the neuron of ROBOARM flexible to move 180 degree to pick objects easily. The controller is basically an Android App, which utilises the Accelerometer sensor and Magnetic Sensor to resemble the human arm movements. MYROB is ready to launch its first appearance in market, costs around Rs. 4500 only. Most importantly this MYROB robot is cheap compared to any other gesture controlled robot and this MYROB can be controlled by mobile App, so no remote is needed for that. Therefore, if the mobile is lost then also the App can be available for every android phone.
