STRANGER BY THE LAKE sold out during the recent Queer Screen Film Festival. This fantastic film opens in cinemas October 17. Summertime in France. At a cruising spot for men, tucked away on the shores of a lake, Franck falls for Michel, but Michel has a regular lover there. When Franck witnesses Michel killing his lover, he is shocked, but nonetheless his passion for this dangerous man overrides any sense of personal safety, and the two men begin an affair. Whilst waiting for Michel to arrive at the lake each day, Franck befriends Henri, an older man, who doesn’t fit in with the ‘scene’, sitting on the outskirts of the cruising area, observing all the comings-and-goings. Their friendship is not based on sex, but on conversation and a shared observation of their world and situation. As Franck and Michel’s liaisons continue with reckless abandonment, a policeman arrives at the lake as the body of Michel’s murdered lover has been discovered... Winner of the Queer Palm, and Best Director (Un Certain Regard) awards at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, STRANGER BY THE LAKE is the controversial and sexually daring new film from acclaimed filmmaker Alain Guiraudie. STRANGER BY THE LAKE is in cinemas October 17, and thanks to Madman Entertainment we have three in-season double passes to giveaway. Email [email protected] before 5pm Thursday 17 October for the chance to win. Watch the trailer now More details

MARRICKVILLE MONEY FOR QUEER SCREEN FILM FEST

Queer Screen is excited to announce that we've secured funding from Marrickville Council for next year's Queer Screen Film Fest. After the success of this year's inaugural festival in Newtown this support from Marrickville Council ensures we'll be back with more great cinema in Spring 2014. Queer Screen President Giovanni Campolo-Arcidiaco will accept a cheque from the mayor of Marrickville at a special ceremony at Petersham Town Hall this week. We'll be using this money, awarded as part of Marrickville's Community Grants program, to fund two screenings in the Inner West - one targeted at our youth audience and another of appeal to the older LGBTIQ community. We'd like to thank Marrickville Council for its support of queer cinema in the Inner West.

CANBERRA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

Former Queer Screen Director Lex Lindsay has just released his first Canberra International Film Festival program and it is packed full of great films, including some exciting queer titles. A highlight is KILL YOUR DARLINGS (above), a star-studded film about Allen Ginsberg's (Daniel Radcliffe) days at Columbia University, where he meets William S. Burroughs, David Kammerer, and Lucian Carr. Ginsberg is instantly smitten with Carr, but Carr only has eyes for a rugged Baseballer named Jack Kerouac. Those who saw the powerful documentary CALL ME KUCHU at Mardi Gras Film Festival 2013 will be aware of the debate about the role of American evangelical missionaries in modern Africa. Documentary GOD LOVES UGANDA dives in and asks whether an invasion of homophobia is taking over the country, and where is it coming from? This highly acclaimed documentary has claimed the lion’s share of awards on the international documentary circuit this year. Other queer titles are ANY DAY NOW starring Alan Cumming, and Queer Screen Film Fest titles AROUND THE BLOCK and STRANGER BY THE LAKE. The Festival runs from Wednesday 30 October to Sunday 10 November in our nation's capital. Tickets are on sale now. More details
