20 December 2011 DISTRIBUTION OF LETTERLAND PRODUCT IN SOUTH AFRICA Pearson Southern Africa is delighted to announce that with immediate effect, we will be working together with Letterland International and Educational Ideas to bring you the award-winning Letterland phonics programme in South Africa. Letterland is a unique, phonics-based approach to teaching reading, writing and spelling to children. Its information-rich Letterland characters transform plain black letter shapes into child-friendly pictogram characters, who live in an imaginary place called Letterland. This year Letterland was approved by the Department of Basic Education as an English Home Language Phonics Programme with an impressive rating score. It is listed in the approved CAPS Foundation Phase catalogue. Maskew Miller Longman (MML) will be working in conjunction with Educational Ideas to service schools and educational booksellers for Letterland. MML continues to be the leading school textbook publisher in South Africa and will now hold the complete Letterland education range in their new state of the art distribution centre in Cape Town. This will mean that South African schools can benefit from both greater local stock availability and more competitive prices. MML will also lend their significant marketing and sales support to the Letterland range ensuring that more schools and children can benefit from this exciting and proven phonics programme. Steve Cilliers, Managing Director of MML said, “It is a privilege to be handling materials that we believe are so well suited to helping South African children to learn to read and write.” Educational Ideas (Hilary Motaln) will become MML’s exclusive Letterland Reseller and will continue to manage and process all Letterland orders from schools and educational booksellers. This appointment recognises Hilary’s excellent work over the last 18 years in promoting Letterland in South Africa and ensures that she will continue to play a pivotal role in educating and informing teachers and parents about this unique and engaging programme.

Hilary Motaln, proprietor of Educational Ideas, said, “I am so glad to be working with MML to expose even more South African children to the excitement of Letterland.” 2012 Product Catalogues with all titles listed will be available from January.
