Abstract.--A pentagon-shapednest box made from four one-half-gallon milk cartons is described. Two cartonsfor interior walls and two for exteriorwalls were appropriatelycut and assembledusing staplesand duct tape. None of 206 boxesusedfor House Sparrows (Passerdomesticus) throughone nestingseason(7 mo), and only eight of 120 boxesused through two nestingseasonsand the interveningwinter (19 mo), required replacement. About 35% required minor retaping eachyear. This inexpensivebox was readily accepted by House Sparrows, withstoodconsiderableweather extremes, and appearswell-suitedfor field studiesof House Sparrowsand possiblyother cavity-nestingbirds.
