Abstract The study was designed to investigate antimicrobial, antifungal effect and cytotoxic properties of ethanol extract of Bacopa monnieri Linn (Family: Scrophulariaceae) along with phytochemical study for the presence of phytochemical constituents. Bacopa monnieri is a common treatment for a wide variety of illnesses, including brain, nervous, respiratory, digestive and circulatory issues. According to Ayurvedic treatment it increase mental abilities and is often used in the treatment of Altheizmer's disease, Parkinson's disease, attention deficit disorder and memory loss. In phytochemical screening, it was found that the ethanol extract of Bacopa monnieri contains alkaloids, glycosides, carbohydrates, tannins, saponins and flavonoids. The ethanol extract of Bacopa monnieri shows varying degrees of antibacterial activities with zone of inhibition ranging from 0-13.5mm. It has highest antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. The ethanol extract of Bacopa monnieri showed significant antifungal activity with zone of inhibition 18.52-42 mm for 50 μg/disc. Marked inhibition was recorded with Aspergillus acerecus. However, it was found that the ethanol extract of the Bacopa monnieri possesses moderate cytotoxic activity with the LC50 value of 0.245 g/ml and the LC90 value of 0.471 g/ml. It could be depicted from the study that ethanol extract of Bacopa monnieri has significant antibacterial, antifungal effect and moderate cytotoxic effect. Keywords: Bacopa monnieri, antimicrobial, antifungal, cytotoxic, phytochemical, saponins and flavonoids.
