Pine City Reads Celebrates its 9th Year What happens in a community-wide read? Reading the same book and discussing it creates a deeper understanding of our neighbors, ourselves and our community. Gathering in public places for discussion reminds us of the value of our library and center for the arts. A community-wide read invites us to go outside of one’s typical choice of books and consider another genre of books. This can result in the unexpected pleasure of a reading experience that takes you to new places and different worlds. Rainwater - Sandra Brown Ella Barron is determined that even the ravages of the Dust Bowl will not affect the well-ordered life she has built for herself and her special child, Solly, who lives in a world of his own that even she can’t enter. This poignant, lyrical novel tells a story of determination and bears witness to a powerful truth: love is worth whatever price one must pay for it. (S&Shuster) Fahrenheit 451 - Ray Bradbury This futuristic masterpiece was written in 1951, yet is very relevant for today. Guy Montag is a fireman, in his world TV rules and literature is on the brink of extinction. Firemen start fires instead of put them out. His wife has a reality TV family yet doesn’t connect with those around her. After Guy meets a new neighbor he begins to question all he has known and finds himself running to save his own life. Books can be purchased at the Pine City Library, Pine City Com. Ed., Pine Center for the Arts and Pine City High School. Each book is $10 or both books for $15.
