Practical Mathematics - Part 1 Unit 1 Lesson 1 Objectives The learner will: • Complete the Unit 1 Pre-Test. • Understand the basics of how the Practical Mathematics course is set up. Instruction In this unit the students will master adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing whole numbers. This unit will also discuss the order of operations and how to solve application problems with whole numbers. Whole numbers are used in the U.S Bureau of Census. Every ten years the Bureau attempts to count and gather information on every person. They use this information to reallocate money, and seats of the House of Representatives.

In this lesson everyone should complete the non graded pre-test. This will help everyone to see what topics they will need to focus on in this Unit. When you complete the pre-test, review your mistakes and write down the topics on which you need to focus. When you get to those lessons, pay close attention to the problems that you missed on the pre-test. This will help you master the skills before the end of Unit.

In this course, "Practical Mathematics," each student will be asked to work in the textbook, view the video lessons, and work on the practice exercises. All of these task are essential to be successful in the course. The interactive practice exercises are based on the section of the textbook on which you are working. The practice exercises will monitor your success and give you more problems if you need extra practice. When you click on the link for the interactive practice, you will need to select the exercise section on which you want to work. Everyone should work through all of the interactive exercises. This will ensure mastery of all the skills from this section of the textbook.

1

After you have selected the exercise section you want to work on, you will be given a question on which to work. With each question you have the ability to view an example of this question, get help solving the question, check your solution, and go to the next exercise. You may go through the exercises by clicking on "next exercise." You don't have to go to the exercise list unless you want to skip to different exercises.

2
