Course website: http://boolesrings.org/victoriagitman/calc1_spring2013 Calculator: A graphing calculator is required Class meets: M/W 10:00am-11:40am in Namm N718 Office hours: M/W 11:45am-12:45pm or by appointment Exams (40% of grade): There will be three in-class exams. The lowest score of the three exams will get dropped. An exam date will be announced at least a week in advance. There will be NO make-ups for missed exams. A missed exam will count as a 0 score. Final Exam (30% of grade): The final exam will take place during the last class meeting of the semester. You must take the final exam to pass the course. Quizzes (20% of grade): There will be at least 10 quizzes. A quiz will take place at the start of a class meeting and will consist of problems assigned in recent homework. The lowest two quiz scores will get dropped. Class Participation (10% of grade): This category includes regular and on-time attendance, asking and answering questions during class meetings, presenting homework/in-class problems. Homework: Homework will be assigned at the end of each class meeting and should be completed prior to the next class. At the start of each class meeting, we will go over difficult homework problems assigned in the previous meeting. Doing homework is crucial for understanding the material and performing well on quizzes and exams. Attendance: Attendance will be taken at the start of each class meeting. Poor attendance and latenesses will impact your grade. Furthermore, students who are excessively absent or late may receive a WU grade (see Mathematics Department policy). Withdrawal from course: The last day to withdraw from the course is April 18, 2013. Students who are failing should consider withdrawing prior to this date to avoid receiving an F in the class. Grading: A = 93.0 – 100 A= 90.0 – 92.9 B+ = 87.0 – 89.9 B = 83.0 – 86.9 B= 80.0 – 82.9 C+ = 77.0 – 79.9 C = 70.0 – 76.9 D = 60.0 – 69.9 F = 0 – 59.9
