MEDIA RELEASE States go bed to bed in internet sex race WHEN it comes to looking up internet sex, computer users in Queensland and New South Wales are leading the way, according to a national sex survey. The first annual Pentagon Grand Australian Sex Survey, which measures the number of times web users in each state search for sex-related words through internet site Google, has ignited a state of origin rivalry of a different kind. The survey showed that New South Wales web users were the most likely to search for the words “sex”, “brothel”, “adult services”, “porn” and “gay”. Queenslanders proved they weren’t going to take the challenge laying down, fending off all other states when searching for “stripper”, “swingers”, “free porn”, “threesome” and “sex shops”. Rachel Love, the general manager of Gold Coast brothel Pentagon Grand that is behind the annual study, said the Christmas-New Year period was the peak time for most of the sexrelated internet searches. Ms Love said it proved that internet users were keen to end the year with a bang. “Based on the overall statistics, it is safe to say that the beach isn’t the only hot place to surf when living in Queensland and New South Wales,” Ms Love said. “While it was a very close battle for internet sex supremacy between the rival states, Queenslanders were not as keen to hand over their credit cards to pay for porn websites. “This could mean that Queenslanders are either smarter or cheaper.” Ms Love said the survey revealed a kinky side to South Australians, who favoured search words such as “orgy”, “sex toys” and “bondage”. “With a capital city known as the city of churches, South Australians really are a different breed behind closed doors,” she said. “There are probably a lot of people lining up at confessionals each Sunday.” In contrast, Ms Love said Victoria’s chilly climate seemed to have brought on an onset of loneliness for its residents, with “internet dating” and “prostitute” earning the state the highest-rankings in the search statistics.

“It’s probably time that the Victorian’s put down the footballs and VB cans for a while and step out into the world to meet other people,” she said. Interestingly, Northern Territory, Western Australia, ACT and Tasmania web users failed to top any of the search lists, but did manage to finish in the top 3 of some categories. The Pentagon Grand Australian Sex Survey will be released by Pentagon Grand on 1 October each year.
