STL Puppetworks I have assembled a group of City Museum employees to make large shadow puppets and silhouette set pieces for a Halloween themed performance in the City Museum’s breezeway. There will be three performances and between performances people will be invited up to the breezeway to play with the large shadow puppets. In the alleyway people will be able to purchase smaller shadow puppets and play with them in a Portable Shadow Play Action Unit. Also on display will be the Portable Cut-Out Silhouette Animation Rig. The show is in part a way for me to help get the word out about STL Puppet Works, a business dedicated to promoting puppetry and animation in the St. Louis area and beyond. The first step of the business is to sell shadow puppets on Etsy, at farmers markets, and craft fairs, as well as offering workshops on shadow puppetry to schools, churches, nursing homes, and at birthday parties. The large shadow puppets and set pieces will be constructed from thin cardstock that is laminated or foam core. We will need to buy a laminator. White shower curtains or cloth will be needed to make the screen. Also needed are rolling stools so we can minimize our personal shadows, to avoid obstructing the audience’s view of the show. Additional dowel rods and fishing line may be needed for controls so we can make the puppets’ legs move, without adding additional controls. After buying supplies and printing fliers advertising the show, additional funds will be used to compensate people for their participation. The Halloween shadow puppet dance is set to take place the evenings of Thursday, October 31st or Friday, November 1st at the City Museum breezeway. I recently saw the PBS Mr. Rogers remix, “Garden of Your Mind,” and was totally inspired. Mr. Rogers was very adept at getting children to talk about their emotions. He also inspired children and adults alike to have a passionate sense of curiosity and showed that the world has a boundless sense of wonder.

STL Mural Project WHO WE ARE: The STL Mural Project is a freeform coalition of artists, activists and citizens that believe in the positive power of art to transform any urban environment. This group offers a place to share ideas, gain support for projects, and collaboratively improve St. Louis with public art installations. THE PROJECT: We plan on creating a mural on the side of Lab1500, a local center for startup businesses and new ideas. Located at 15th Street and Washington Avenue, the mural aims to visually express the concepts of thinking big, collaboration, and innovation.  WE NEED YOU: With a total fundraising goal of 10,000 dollars, this SLOUP will help provide funding for the successful execution of this mural. BUDGET: - Painting Materials - Scaffolding - Artist Fees - Media & Promotion

PAST PROJECTS: STL Mural Project  recently teamed with Craft Alliance, to install a "Before I Die" chalkboard mural in the Delmar Loop . Before I Die is a global art project that invites people to reflect on their lives and share their personal aspirations in public space. Thank you for casting your SLOUP #39 Vote for the STL Mural Project. Your support benefits the future of more large murals, a mural festival, and a public arts workspace in St. Louis. Kulishana Cookbooks

#4

Yes! The cookbook industry is growing and company will be an L3C in order to help facilitate future expansion, including annual releases of new cookbooks. Online subscriptions and e-books will also be sold for little overhead cost.

Does Kulishana have a viable business plan?

Kulishana will also give back to local communities in two ways: 1) The women who contribute their stories and recipes will be paid royalties for their contributions, and 2) Twenty five percent of the gross margin will go towards sustainable nutritional interventions within the countries.

Every nation, every culture, has its own unique food and the sharing of this food can be a wonderful tool to foster understanding and respect between people from different nations. This may be especially true for developing nations where often little is known about the inhabitants beyond their need. Kulishana Cookbooks would act as a tool to acknowledge of the value and beauty of a nation’s culture and people beyond the violence, poverty and starvation portrayed in the media.

Why support Kulishana Cookbooks?

Kulishana  Cookbooks

The primary mission of Kulishana Cookbooks is to generate cultural awareness by creating a ‘global community’ through cooking. Cookbooks will contain favorite recipes, personal narratives and photographs of women from three developing countries, including Cambodia, Haiti & Kenya in the first wave of publication.

What are Kulishana Cookbooks?

‘Feed one another’

Presented by: Jessica Londeree, MPH

“Food is our common ground, a universal experience.” –Chef James Beard

Kulishana needs start-up capital for production and travel costs. Private investors and crowdsourcing are essential to avoid bankloans and to put money towards expansion and nutritional interventions – not interest. We also want to spread public knowledge and support for our company and its mission.
