Regent Ravens A U-10 Boys/Girls Soccer team The Regent Ravens was originally formed to play recreational soccer at the U-9 level during the Fall 2000-Spring 2001 seasons, and will play at the U-10 level starting in Fall 2001. The bulk of the players are from the Franklin/Randall neighborhoods and came from two U-8 Regent soccer teams that were disbanding. The Ravens currently play in MAYSA’s M9SW-B division. The Ravens was formed to help bring together players and parents that have similar objectives for their recreational soccer experience, and minimize the conflicts that arise from disparate expectations. This document was created to outline those basic objectives. Goals for the Ravens 1. Provide an environment where kids can develop their individual and team soccer skills and prepare them for competitive play at the U-11 level. 2. Have a paid professional coach with a strong background in both youth and competitive soccer that can run effective practices with drills that are both instructive and fun. 3. Focus on improving individual and team skills during games, rather than the final score. 4. Provide kids an opportunity to play at a high recreational level (A or B division). 5. Is fun for kids that have a strong desire to improve their soccer skills. 6. Is drawn primarily from kids in the Franklin/Randall neighborhoods. 7. Provides roughly equal playing time for all players over the course of the season. To help achieve these goals, the team will: • Meet approximately 3 times per week during the spring and fall seasons for practices or games (e.g., 2 practices and 1 game per week). • Participate in 1 or 2 tournaments per season. • Participate in 1 team camp/clinic per year to help build skills. • Will practice on a marked playing field, to the extent possible. • Practices will include conditioning drills to help improve overall fitness. • Organize an optional indoor soccer team for at least part of the winter indoor season. • Organize or coordinate optional clinics and camps to work on skills development. Costs In addition to the Regent Soccer fees of $65 per year, parents will be asked to contribute toward compensation for the coach. This has not been negotiated for the Fall 2001 season, but will not be more than $100 per player per season. The coaching fees were $55/player for the Fall 2000 season, and $45/player for the Spring 2000 season. Tournament fees are generally $20-$25 per player per tournament. Coach We are currently looking for a new coach for the Fall 2001 season. Our current coach, Lindsey Monk, has been accepted to the UW nursing program; the clinical responsibilities are unfortunately not conducive to continuing coaching youth soccer.
