Tri-Agency Update Student Stipend Update Effective this coming fall, there is a change in student stipend guidelines for Tri-Agency grants. The three federal granting agencies—Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR)—are working towards harmonizing their policies on support paid to students and postdoctoral fellows from research grants. As of fall 2011, this means the agencies' existing regulations on minimum and maximum support levels will no longer apply. The agencies will also no longer restrict researchers from using their grant money to provide supplements to scholarship holders. These changes respond to concerns expressed by institutions and researchers about the different approaches taken by the agencies. Revised literature that incorporates the policy change will be posted on the agencies' Web sites in September. The Tri-Agencies usually publish an update to the Financial Administration Guide in September. Keep an eye on the Carleton Research Accounting web site for the announcement. Reminder of Overdue Reports Researchers are reminded to return signed copies of their Form 300 Statement of Account for their Tri-Agency grants. These reports were due by June 30th, and late submission could have an impact on availability of funds.
