Restoring Data to a Backup Server or Test Server

Use the following procedure if you have a backup or test server and you need to restore data to it. Note that there are two methods for executing a restore: restoring from Osprey, and rebuilding the server. Always use the first method unless the server must be rebuilt, in which case you would use the second method.

Restoring from Osprey Always use this procedure unless you need to rebuild the server, in which case you would use the Rebuilding the Server method (below). 1. From Network Access at the Function prompt, type OSPREY and press . When prompted for a password, type AVATAR and press . 2. Type RESTORE and press . 3. You will be asked three questions. Answer with the responses indicated below.   

Remove data files? --Accept the default of No, and press . Disable Autopilot? --Change this field to Yes, and press . Be SURE to change this field to Yes! Extract Catalog Files? -- Change this field to Yes if any Eagle Catalogs exist on your system.

4. At Action, press and press . 5. When asked to enter the Quiet Mode, type YES and press . 6. The system will then suggest a backup to restore to (usually the last successful backup tape.) You can enter a different backup to use (e.g., BKA, BKB, BKC, and so forth). If you enter a different backup, you will need to bypass the warning that displays. 7. When prompted, insert the backup into the drive and press . The system checks the backup and gives a warning stating “The operation you are about to perform replaces all your current data on the Triad with the data stored on the inserted tape, BK_ (the tape you selected). Type ‘ERASE’ to begin the restore: _ _ _ _ _” 8. Type ‘ERASE’ and press . The restore begins, and takes as long as a backup normally does (longer with an Eagle Catalog).

Rebuilding Data on a Backup or Test Server Only follow this procedure if you must rebuild data on a backup or test server. Otherwise, skip this section. 1. Disconnect the network cable from the server. 2. Run Upgrade/newsoft/Upgrade as normal (see document 5056, “Scrub Upgrade Procedure”). 3. From the Console Login prompt, type OSPREY and press . 4. At Selection, type SETIP and press . Change the IP address to the correct IP for this server

(upgrade automatically sets it to the Live Eagle’s IP) 5. At Selection, type SPECIAL and press . Type QOFF as the function name, and press . Type an E and press to execute. 6. At Selection, type FTMGR and press . Type a D to select DISABLE, and press . Type an E and press to execute. 7. At Selection, type LOCATE and press . Type a D to select DISABLE, and press . Type an E and press to execute. 8. At Selection, type DWSET and press .Clear out the IP address from the Database Host field, and press . 9. Automotive customers only: Call Activant support and ask them to disable Aconnex Services. 10. Press to exit Osprey. 11. Reboot the system. Ending out of Osprey should automatically initiate a reboot because you ran SETIP earlier, but if for some reason a reboot is not initiated, reboot now (by executing a powerdwn). 12. You may now reconnect the system to the network.
