Course Overview (5 Days Intensive) The lectures will introduce the following aspects: 1. The risk and its Management -Notion of risk and importance of its control, objectives of the tasks of a risk Management process. -Difference between reliability and risk management. -Identification of the risks and their origins. -Proposal of a model and introduction of the main approaches 2. Assessment of the risk -Principles and main techniques (overview & ISO 31010) 3. Evaluation of the risks -Integration of socio-economic criteria for risk appreciation 4. Treatment of the risks -Classes of approaches for treating risks. -Illustration of the previous sections on the risks associated with Systems 5. Risk Management System -Requirements and means to implement and to improve activities for managing risks (ISO 31000 – Principles and Framework)

Prof. Gilles Motet Gilles Motet is Professor at the National Institute in Applied Sciences of Toulouse, researcher at LAAS-CNRS and Scientific Director of the “Foundation for an Industrial Safety Culture” (FonCSI). His research activities deal with risk concepts and management, and their use for system development and software application development. In the framework of the Foundation, he organized the launch of the 4 calls for research (2004, 2006, 2008 and 2010) and developed activities for transferring the results to the stakeholders and the research community including notebooks called “Cahiers de la sécurité industrielle” (“Industrial Safety Notes”), workshops including the” International Forum on Industrial Safety”. Gilles Motet is author of several books including “Design of Dependable Ada Software” (Prentice Hall, 1996), “Embedded Systems Applications” (editor, Kluwer Academic Publishers, 1997), “Dependable Computing” (editor, Theoretical Computer Sciences, Elsevier, 2002), “Design of Dependable Systems” (Kluwer Academic Publishers, 2002), “Resolving multiple criteria in decision-making involving risk of accidental loss” (editor, Safety Sciences, Elsevier, 2009). He also contributes to standardisation activities in France and abroad: ISO 15942 “Guide for the use of the Ada programming language in high integrity system” (2002), "NF Software" (2003), AFNOR 50-252 “Risk management – Guidelines for risk assessment” (2006), revision of ISO Guide 73 “Risk Management – Vocabulary” (2009) and the new ISO 31000 “Risk Management – Principles and Guidelines” (2009).
