Adding Details Share with students of examples of great writing you noticed yesterday in writing workshop.  Today they will learn another strategy to revise their writing - adding details.   Add to anchor chart - I can add details to my writing so my reader can picture what I am sharing. Growing writers go back to their writing to make it better before they share with many people.  Demonstrate for students how you reread your writing, and think aloud about the content.  Is there enough information that the reader could draw a picture about the content?  Show students how you decide how to add details that will improve your writing. Show how you add carets and add additional details.  Then reread and reflect. Time to Work:  Partners will assist one another in trying out the strategy.

Editing

W.2.2 W.2.7

Tell the students that writers do all they have been doing-and that writers publish their writing. Remind children that when it is time to publish, a writer looks over everything he or she has written and choose one text to fix up and fancy up. “All through this school and all across the world, when writhers know that it will soon be time to publish, the writher rereads what he or she has written and chooses the best, saying, ‘This is the piece I’m going to publish.’” Share that you are going to show them a few strategies to fix up their writing which is also known as editing. Create an editing anchor chart – for this first go round only add three elements. I can check for punctuation – each sentence must have an end mark. I can make sure every sentence begins with a capital letter. I can check for spelling. Model going through the process of checking for each in your own writing. For spelling circle the words that you are unsure of the spelling. Think aloud were you might find the correct spelling.

Time to Write: Students should begin to edit their papers.
