Siemens in the Philippines •
In fiscal 2013 (October 1, 2012 – September 30, 2013), Siemens’ sales to customers in the Philippines amounted to almost EUR 225 million, and new orders totaled nearly EUR 270 million.

The year 2013 marked Siemens’ official entry into the country’s renewable energy market after securing an 81-megawatt (MW) wind power order from Northern Luzon UPC Asia Corporation (NLUPC) for Caparispisan, Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte.

In fiscal 2013, Siemens extended its business reach beyond the Philippines, supplying two key hospitals in the U.S. territories of Guam and Saipan with various imaging solutions.

Siemens offers a wide range of solutions and services in the Philippines, where its Energy, Healthcare, Industry, and Infrastructure & Cities Sectors occupy leading positions. In fiscal 2013, Siemens in the Philippines scored major successes in all four Sectors:
Energy Sector In fiscal 2013, Siemens officially entered the country’s renewable energy market with its first wind power order from Northern Luzon UPC Asia Corporation (NLUPC). The scope of the supply contract includes the delivery, installation, and commissioning of 27 SWT-3.0-101 direct-drive wind turbines, each with an output of three megawatts (MW), providing a total of 81 MW for a wind farm in Caparispisan, Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, which is targeted to be operational in 2014. The deal includes a five-year service maintenance and availability agreement. Siemens also won a supply contract for a 400-MW gas turbine and

generator for the development of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) hub in the country. In collaboration with Voith Hydro GmbH & Co., Siemens performed maintenance services for a 70 MW hydroelectric power plant. After which, Siemens upgraded the power plant's generator excitation system to fully digital specifications.
Siemens continued to enhance its leading position in the local market for transformers. Manila Electric Company (Meralco), the country’s biggest utility firm, ordered five units of 83-megavolt ampere (MVA) power transformers for its key franchise areas, namely Tutuban, Alabang, Nuvali – Sta. Rosa, Hill Crest – Pasig, and a spare unit for Metro Manila substations. Meralco has been a Siemens customer since the 1950s. Siemens fulfills more than 75 percent of its power transformer requirements. During fiscal 2013, Siemens completed an upgrade project for the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), a private corporation that operates and maintains the country’s transmission network. The scope of the project involved the installation and commissioning of SICAM AK1703, Siemens’ latest version of its central control unit, for its substations in Mak-ban, Laguna, and Tayabas. The upgrade is expected to help NGCP achieve its goal of improving the overall reliability of the country’s electric transmission system and prepare the grid for larger demand in the future. Additionally, Siemens also supplied 230-kilovolt (kV) transformers and a variety of high-voltage equipment to NGCP and other long-term clients, including National Power Corporation, Iligan Light Power Inc., and Miescor Aboitiz.
Healthcare Sector In fiscal 2013, Siemens further enhanced its position in the country’s healthcare market with landmark installations in key hospitals. Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC), located in southern Philippines, purchased a 1.5 Tesla Magnetom Essenza to add to the hospital’s growing imaging equipment portfolio from Siemens, which includes a computed tomography (CT) singleslice Somatom Emotion, C-Arm – Siremobil Compact, and various ultrasound systems. With a 250-bed capacity, ZCMC is one of 25 hospitals that the Department of Health has identified for modernization under the government’s 2
public-private partnership scheme. Another southern Philippine-based hospital, Ciudad Medical Zamboanga (CMZ), is the first hospital in Southeast Asia to own a Siemens Somatom Perspective 64-slice computed tomography (CT) scan, which is capable of faster rotation times. This results in shorter procedures and enhanced patient comfort. In Metro Manila, Siemens likewise maintains its lead in the imaging business. As part of its 435th anniversary celebrations, San Juan de Dios Educational Foundation, Inc. Hospital inaugurated its newly purchased Somatom Emotion, a 16-slice computed tomography (CT) system from Siemens. The system’s low radiation dose feature further strengthens the radiology portfolio of this hospital through better and safer imaging services. Another medical institution steeped in history, the Philippine General Hospital (PGH), which is the country’s premier government hospital and medical school, recently acquired a Siemens Magnetom Essenza to expand its radiology facility. During its 38th anniversary celebration, the Philippine Heart Center, which is noted in the region for its breakthroughs in cardiac care, unveiled a hybrid operating room equipped with Siemens’ Artis Zeego. The first surgical facility of its kind in the country, the hybrid operating room is designed for highly advanced and complex procedures that allow large multi-specialty medical teams to work efficiently and seamlessly, thereby significantly enhancing surgical outcomes. Outside the Philippines, Siemens also booked orders in U.S. territories Guam and Saipan. The Guam Regional Medical City, the new and only private hospital in Guam, acquired multimodality imaging solutions from Siemens, including ultrasound systems, Mammomat Inspiration, Somatom Definition Flash, and a 1.5 Magnetom Aera. The Commonwealth Health Center in Sapian purchased a 16-slice Somatom Sensation /ecoline computed tomography (CT) system.
Industry Sector Siemens supplied Manila Water’s Marikina North sewage treatment plant with automation systems consisting of programmable logic controllers (PLC) and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems. These patented automation systems from Siemens allow plant operators to monitor and control plant processes from a remote location, while feeding in a variety of critical data pertaining to the equipment’s operational targets and benchmarks. Siemens 3
also maintained its lead in the local cement market with upgrades in Holcim’s Bulacan and Lugait plants and Lafarge’s Batangas plant.
Infrastructure & Cities Sector Siemens won supply contracts from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Manila Water, and Shangri-La Hotel at Fort Bonifacio Global City, further strengthening its preferred brand status for low-voltage products. The contract with ADB covers the supply and delivery of circuit breakers for its building’s distribution panels, thus ensuring a more stable power supply and unhampered operations for the multilateral lending institution headquartered in Mandaluyong, Metro Manila. Through its business partner Hexatech, Siemens installed Sivacon LX busways in the soon to be operational Shangri-La Hotel in Taguig, which is touted as the first six-star hotel in the country. The power distribution solution, which is specifically designed for the hotel’s complex layout and elaborate floor plan, ensures utmost operational efficiency and safety. Through system integrator Eurotec, Siemens supplied Manila Water’s Marikina sewage treatment plant with Sivacon 8PT, a patented motor control unit that ensures continuous water supply for the city. Megaworld Corporation, a reputable developer of commercial and residential properties, awarded Siemens a contract for the supply and installation of Siemens’ flagship busway line, SENTRON Busway, on its various vertical housing developments in Manila, Quezon City, and Taguig. Siemens SENTRON Busway, is a cost-effective power delivery solution specifically designed for industrial plants, hospitals, shopping malls, or any high-tech environment that requires efficient distribution of power throughout the facility. With the installation of Siemens SENTRON Busway, the Megaworld properties are now ensured of uninterrupted, safe, and efficient power distribution. Outside of the Philippines, the Infrastructure & Cities Sector supplied a variety of circuit breakers to private and government entities in the U.S. territories of Guam and the Marianas Islands for use in utility, commercial, and industrial applications.
Siemens’ presence in the Philippines dates back to 1894, when the company’s medical systems business began operations in the country via the Reiniger Company. In 1992, Siemens Inc. was established as a joint venture with a local 4
