Singapore Math Extra Practice Alignment with Everyday Math: Grades 1-5

This guide was developed to support teachers in using the exercises found in the Singapore Extra Practice (SEP) book, which may be used as a supplement to support lessons in Everyday Math (EDM). This guide presents information for each grade level, 1st-5th. One may use it in at least two ways: 1) Looking at the EDM lesson to be taught and finding the supportive exercises to use as supplemental material. 2) Looking in the topic column to find the concept/skill that needs extra support and then determining the exercises that have that focus. Most EDM lessons will be supported by one or more exercises in SEP. An exercise is a collection of problems on 1-3 pages that focus on a single concept/skill. These exercises are further divided into lettered (i.e., A, B, C….) sections. Where an exercise supports more than one lesson, you will find an asterisk (*) next to that exercise number. Grades 2 and 4 have at least one EDM unit without supporting material in SEP, so there are blank cells across the row for those units. Singapore Extra Practice books present exercises in a format that makes it a challenge to direct a teacher to just a page number. Some pages have more than one section and present problems in more or less abstract ways. The exercises are frequently divided into lettered sections. You may find that only some of the problems are appropriate for individual children. You may direct your children to do specific problems in the exercise or all the problems. In some of the exercises, you will find that only the top part or the bottom part are appropriate and will need to cut your worksheet in half - yes, worksheets. At this time, the Singapore Extra Practice books are not consumable and you will need to find a way for your children to work on the problems without consuming the books. The Alignment team has done its best to make this accurate but as you use this guide, any suggested changes or comments may be sent to Joseph Thompson (Hawthorne) or Linda Cantrell (Loyal Heights). We will make changes as needed and send out new versions as appropriate.
