Course overview This course stresses the development of fluency in presentational, interpersonal and interpretative communication in Spanish. It has an emphasis on comprehension of Spanish literature and history, expository composition, and expanded use of grammar. The focus of this course is an intermediate mid to high proficiency. The class is conducted in Spanish. Course Objectives Increase student’s proficiency in the areas of: 1. Listening: the ability to understand the spoken language both formally and in conversation. 2. Speaking: the ability to speak with accuracy and fluency using appropriate pronunciation and intonation. 3. Writing: the ability to express ideas accurately and with fluency. 4. Reading: the expansion and acquisition of vocabulary and grammatical structures that enable the student to read newspaper and magazine articles as well as literature with ease and accuracy. 5. Culture: students will expand their awareness of the differences and similarities of selected cultural and linguistic aspects. I.

You must assume that there will be a grade taken nearly every day. Quizzes or other graded activities are frequent. Homework will be assigned on a daily basis and students

have to complete it because it expands what we studied in class. I am always available if students have questions. I encourage my students to seek tutoring as the need arises. Attendance and Class Policies As a major emphasis is put on classroom interaction and speaking, students must attend classes regularly and participate actively. The students are expected to observe the following rules: • Be in class on time • Bring all materials to class every day • Listen attentively and follow directions • Keep all the handouts and papers you receive • Ask me for help (please do not wait until the last minute, come and see me as soon as you notice that you are struggling) • Show appropriate behavior: inappropriate behavior is defined as anything you do that might interfere with: − your ability to learn − a classmate's ability to learn − my ability to teach IV.

You will be given a calendar of weekly or biweekly activities. Handouts given on a day of absence will be in a folder on the teacher's desk. Make-up quizzes and in school work: in the Academic Lab Tests will be taken in classroom after school on during Academic Lab. Please arrange tutorials with me.
